A big "thanks" to our firefighters

I am writing in regards to a situation I had in late November when trying to replace a fuse that had burnt out in my home. I called the electric company and the police department, and no one was willing to help me. Next I called the Columbus Division of Fire at Wheatland and Broad and explained my situation and they were nice enough to come by and check things out. They even took it upon themselves to go buy the things that were needed and fix the problem. I was very appreciative, so I went to the engine house and paid for the material they had replaced. They did not want to be reimbursed, so I told them to give the money to the kids or wherever they saw fit.

I just want to give that crew some recognition because they are some very nice firemen we have with the Columbus Division of Fire and I really appreciate them helping me.

District needs cuts

While I can understand those who favor the SWCS bond and levy, it shows that they do not care about those who simply cannot afford increases in property taxes.

Many of us are on fixed incomes, and need to watch every penny we receive.  After paying what is necessary,  such as food, my mortage  and medical expenses, there is very little left. I may have voted for the bond issue to help build and/or renovate school buildings, but I firmly believe there is still waste that needs to be cut out of the budget before I would even consider voting for a new levy.

The economic situation in the country is leading many to make necessary cuts in order that will help them survive and the school district should also do this.
