Bexley High School has 66 AP Scholars this Year

Principal John Kellogg announces that 68 Bexley High School students have earned the designation of AP Scholar from the College Board, based on Advanced Placement (AP) Program Exams from spring 2008.

Three students were recognized as National AP Scholars. 2008 graduates Ross Darwin, Jessica Kirschner, and Robert Moore each scored a "4" or better on all exams taken and "4" or better on eight or more of the exams.

"This is a unique achievement and these graduates are to be congratulated," noted Dr. Kellogg.

An additional 24 Bexley students were named AP Scholars, meaning they scored a "3" or higher on three or more tests. Fifteen achieved AP Scholar with Honor designation, scoring "3.25" on all exams taken and "3" or better on four or more.

Sixteen were "AP Scholars with Distinction," with a "3.5" average on all taken and "3" or better on five or more exams.

Dr. Kellogg commented that each year since the school district began expanding students¹ access to Advanced Placement courses, the number of students recognized with AP Scholar status has increased.

Bexley High School currently offers 19 certified AP courses in a variety of content areas. These classes give students college preparatory experiences in a rigorous curriculum. Colleges often grant credit for AP work completed in high school and students who participate in AP courses demonstrate a high level of success in college. BHS broadened access to Advanced Placement course work beginning in 2003, adding AP courses, encouraging more students to try AP, and requiring the AP exam, which is paid for by the school district. This fall, the High School is offering AP Environmental Science for the first time.

In 2008, 240 Bexley High School students took a total of 424 AP exams; this represents 44 percent of the students eligible to take AP courses.
