Reynoldsburg Post
Office expands hours
Effective June 7, the Reynoldsburg Post Office expanded its hours of operation. The post office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Widow or Widowers Club
The Widow or Widowers Club will meet at 1 p.m. on June 14 at the Reynoldsburg Senior Center, 1520 Davidson Drive. The meeting will follow a potluck meal social hour. New members welcome. For more information call Nancy at (614) 759-9291.
Military news
•Vincent Petrella has received an Air Force ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) college scholarship offer to attend a selected host college or university. Upon graduation from college and completion of the ROTC program, the cadet will receive a bachelor's degree and a commission of second lieutenant in the Air Force. He is the son of Paul Petrella of Reynoldsburg and Suzanne Petrella of Blacklick. Petrella is a 2008 graduate of Bishop Hartley High School.
•Benjamin Milliken has been promoted to the rank of senior airman in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. Milliken, a C-130 aircraft crew chief with eight years of military service, is assigned to the 94th Maintenance Group, Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Marietta, Ga. He is the son of Jim Milliken of Reynoldsburg.
New children's book
A Christian children's picture book, "The Wall They Could Not See," by author Karen Seelenbinder of Madison Township, is for sale at the Christian Armory in the Eastland Mall. This breathtaking story is about a stubborn housefly, a whoosh! smack! and the power of an awesome God. Youth to Youth
Reynoldsburg High School students Ashley Baker, Alyvia Johnson, Mykal Thomas, Joey Ballour Jr., and Jessica Woodwardwill attend the Youth to Youth summer leadership conference at Denison University in Granville from June 15-18. Baker was selected as a youth staff leader. During the conference nationally known speakers will speak to the students and workshops will be held to teach innovative skills. Youth to Youth supports teens making the choice to be tobacco, alcohol, and drug free.

Steak dinner
American Legion Post 283, 7725 Refugee Road, will host a steak dinner on June 27 from 6-9 p.m. The public is invited.
Fest-Nic IV
Church of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, 5225 Refugee Road, Columbus, will hold its fourth annual parish festival/picnic: Fest-Nic IV on June 28 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Meals are $5, $1 for kids‚ and sandwich/nacho/pizza for $2. There will also be games, a silent auction, bake sale, a 50/50 raffle and a white elephant sale. A DJ will provide music and karaoke. For information call Mike at 614-271-6722.
Refinati honored
American Legion 12th District Commander James Refinati from Whitehall Comrade Post 490 recently won the American Legion National Membership Award "Race to the Top." The 12th District is the only one in Ohio that has quota in membership being 404 members ahead of last year's totals.
Democrats to meet
The Greater Reynoldsburg Democratic Club will meet at 7 p.m. on June 19 at the Reynoldsburg police station, 7240 E. Main St. in Reynoldsburg.
Golf outing
The Whitehall Education Foundation will host a golf outing July 7 at Jefferson Country Club. Cost will be $100 per person. For information, contact Leo Knoblauch at 236-9852.
"The Torch" honored
"The Torch," Bexley High School's student newspaper, recently received the Golden Flash award from the Ohio Scholastic Media Association (OSMA) for the 2007-08 school year.
Bexley's was one of only two student newspapers to receive the the award, the highest honor granted by the OSMA. The association is a coalition of journalism programs and media associations working for the overall betterment of high school journalism teaching and media in Ohio.
The staff, advised by Julie Horger, was led this yearby co-editors Lucy First, Adrienne Liefeld and Libby Ashton.
In addition to the overall award, 21 members of the staff earned a total of 43 individual awards for writing, photography and design. Twelve Superior awards went to:
•Drew Davis, William Lesser and Tim Nassau for their team in-depth reporting in the September 2007 issue entitled "Sex in the Suburbs;" the same center spread earned Drew Davis and William Lesser a superior award for design.
•Lucy First, Adrienne Liefeld, William Lesser and Brynn Kolada for team in-depth reporting in January 2007, "School technology: useful tool or obstacle to learning?"
•Janet Stewart for her feature story about teachers juggling work and family
•Robert Moore for his review of the film "Shrek 3."
•Paige Phillips for her news story on the state legislation that prompted the district's bullying policy.
