Cops get cruisers in FT
The Franklin Township Police Department will receive new police cruisers sometime this spring.
Franklin Township trustees, with the recommendation of Police Chief Mike Castle, finalized plans to purchase four 2008 Crown Victoria Police Interceptors at a cost of $24,601 per car.
“The Fords are the best,” said Castle.
“That’s the best we can get for our money.”
The total cost per vehicle includes the base price of $20,678 per car, plus an added $3,849 to install lights, sirens, speakers, radios, and all other extras necessary.
Once ordered, the new models are expected to arrive to the township within 90 days.
The new models will replace the 2003 models currently in use. The township may elect to trade-in the old models for a $1,000 credit per vehicle from Statewide Ford, or sell the cars on their own at a different price.
In other Franklin Township news, Fire Chief Richard Howard is preparing to propose a tax levy for the fire department to go on the November ballot. Howard will meet with the trustees in March or April to present the information for their consideration.
