Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park is located at 1775 Darby Creek Dr. in Galloway, four miles off Route 40 just east of West Jefferson. Here is a list of events for January. •What a Hoot, Jan. 5 at 5:30 p.m. - Try to lure in owls for a closer view while on a two-mile hike. Meet at Indian Ridge Bulletin Board. •Preschoolers: Bear Necessities, Jan. 8 at 9:30 a.m. or 11 a.m. - Bring your teddy bears and learn about these furry mammals through storytelling, songs and a craft. Meet at Cedar Ridge Lodge. •Photo Nuts Photography Club, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. - Learn tips and techniques for ice and snow photography. All levels of shutterbugs are welcome. Meet at Cedar Ridge Lodge. •Off-Trail Adventure, Jan. 13 at 1 p.m. - Lace up your boots and explore an area off the beaten path. Meet at Indian Ridge Bulletin Board. •Trees Without Leaves, Jan. 19 at 10 a.m. - Walk the Darby trails to learn tips for identifying trees by their bark, buds and branches. Meet at the Naturalist Office. •Snow Tales, Jan. 20 at 1 p.m. - Find out how animals survive winter as you look for their prints in the snow on a two-mile hike. Meet at the Naturalist Office. •Howl at the Moon, Jan. 20 at 6 p.m. - Bring your canine companion on a two-mile hike along Darby’s pet trail. Meet at Pet Trail Parking Lot, 2914 Georgesville-Wrightsville Road. •Baby Bear Full Moon Hike, Jan. 22 at 6 p.m. - Join in for a four-mile moonlit hike through the winter woods. Meet at the Naturalist Office. •Preschoolers: Bear Necessities, Jan. 25 at 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. - Bring your teddy bears and learn about these furry mammals through storytelling, songs and a craft.
