Whitehall "Herk" Scholarship gets support
The scholarship is a part of the Whitehall Education Foundation, managed through the Columbus Foundation. The foundation is not a part of Whitehall City Schools. It is an independent entity.
The mission of the foundation is to support quality and excellence in the school district. The scholarship was founded by Amalee Soteriades to honor of her late husband, who died in 2000, affectionately know to residents as "Herk."
Soteriades was retired from Whitehall Division of Fire, where he was a firefighter and then a fire inspector. During the time of his death he was serving on City Council.
Two of his passions were theatre arts and serving the community in the safety services. It seemed appropriate for his wife to establish scholarships for graduates pursuing both of those careers.
Donations to the scholarship are tax-deductible. To donate, or for information, call 417-5000.
