Grove City Council approve funds for road improvements
Road improvements are coming to North Meadows Drive. At its Sept. 17 meeting, Grove City Council approved legislation to appropriate $1.5 million from the general fund to pay for the reconstruction and widening of this increasingly busy road. According to Councilman Steve Bennett, the North Meadows Drive improvement project will include the construction of a four-lane roadway with median and the installation of a new street lighting system. Also included in the project is the construction of new curbs and gutters, the allowance of greater connectivity for sidewalks and trails, and improvements to public utilities. Bennett said increasing the number of lanes and adding signalized access points would lessen the burden of traffic for this populated area. “It will divert traffic away from State Route 665 and Hoover Road and allow motorists to get greater access to the freeway,” Bennett said. While the city is paying $1.5 million for this project – most of the costs support the initial design phase, which includes surveying, engineering, project management, land acquisition, legal fees and utility coordination – it will not foot the entire construction bill. The North Meadows Drive improvement project is part of an economic development agreement between the city and the Mount Carmel Health System. Under the terms of the agreement, Mount Carmel will help finance infrastructure improvements along North Meadows Drive from its current intersection with State Route 665 to the intersection of Hoover and Holton roads. Bennett said he expects the road improvements will be completed in time for the fall 2013 opening of the medical center. The medical facility will include a 36,775 square foot emergency care center and a 68,215 square foot medical office building. It will be staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
