CW Schools' financial information more available
The Canal Winchester Board of Education has heard the public's request for more information on the district's finances and they're delivering.
A new finances section on the district's website highlights information the public requests most from district officials.
According to Superintendent Kimberley Miller-Smith, the district wants to be more transparent about its financial state and plans to do so through its website.
"We are committed to maintaining excellent schools at a good value to taxpayers," said Board President Debra Waites in a press release. "School staff and the board have been working tirelessly with experts in financial planning to develop a long-term plan that will not only keep us accountable to taxpayers, but will ensure we keep our schools and our community on a continued path of stability."
"We are constantly looking to trim our budget in smart ways while protecting the classroom and ensuring maximum value to the taxpayers," added Miller-Smith.
By visiting the site, visitors can find information in the district's long-term financial plan, as well as the five-year forecast and tips on how to read it. The site also gives information on district spending, cost cutting efforts and levies. Treasurer's reports will also be included.
Since the district is in the beginning stages of creating this new portion of its site, not all of the information is currently available for viewing, though it is expected to be soon.
To find this new section of the site, visit canalwinchesterschools.org, then click "E-Communications" under the "District Info" menu and click "Finance" from the menu on the left.
In other financial news, the board approved the district's annual appropriations at its Sept. 17 meeting in the amount of $49.4 million.
According to district Treasurer Joyce Boyer, the annual appropriations must be adopted in September for the entire fiscal year, but they can be adjusted later in the year.
