GHAC discusses Glenwood Recreation Center, police response

(by Sandi Latimer, staff writer - August 15, 2012)

A lack of temperature control at a local recreation center and poor police response time were items discussed by the Greather Hilltop Area Commission on Aug. 14.

Several commission members said Glenwood Recreation Center needs  repairs, including an improved air conditioning system.

Community groups use the center for public gatherings, like GlenFest on Aug. 11.

Commission chair Chuck Patterson said he is worried Glenwood would be forgotten.

The commission plans to forward their concerns to the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department.

Police response

Commission member Gene Klingler said she recently called the Columbus Division of Police to report an incident, but was told there were no available officers to respond.

Several commission members said they received similiar treatment.

Commission member Jay McCallister said he will meet with Police Chief Kimberly Jacobs in the near future.

Patterson was asked to schedule Jacobs for a meeting with the commission.

“It would have to be a special meeting,” Patterson said. “If we have her at a regular meeting, the meeting could go for five hours.”

McCallister made a motion for Jacobs and the area’s liaison officer speak at a special meeting.

This motion was approved. No specific date or location was offered. The meeting will be open to the public.
