Columbia Gas to replace 16,000-feet of mainline in Hilltop

Columbia Gas of Ohio will replace 16,000-feet of natural gas mainline in the Richardson Avenue area in late July, which is an investment of $1.8 million.

The project area is north of Fremont Street, south of West Broad Street, east of Oakley Avenue and west of Ogden Avenue. The project replaces existing steel pipe with specially designed plastic pipe. This will benefit 800 customers and scheduled to be completed in November.

Information will be distributed at a public meeting from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on July 24 at the Hilltop Lutheran Church, 12 S. Terrace Ave. Columbia Gas representatives answer questions for residents.

The construction requires a temporary interruption of natural gas service. Impacted customers will be contacted via letter in advance. Columbia Gas will make personal contact with customers prior to shutting off service and to schedule service restoration.

Customers with indoor meters will have them moved outside so entry to the home is no longer needed to read the meter. This will be done at no additional cost.

As a reminder, all Columbia Gas employees and contractors carry identification cards bearing their name, photograph and identification number and will show it.

Work will be done on the following streets:

-     West Broad Street (between Ogden Avenue and Terrace Avenue).
