A local club has raised more than $20,000 in the last 10 years, which has all gone toward the betterment of the community.

Loser Racing, which started in 2000, will host its second annual “Spring Fling” fundraiser on April 14 at Jay’s Sports Lounge, 3475 Sullivant Ave., at 1 p.m. The event is open to the public.

“Hillbilly” Jan Taylor, president of Loser Racing, said there will be door prizes, an auction, a 50/50 drawing, food, and a live DJ. Guests are also encouraged to bring a covered dish to share.

One-hundred percent of the proceeds given at the event go toward helping local individuals and community neighbors who are in need.

Last year’s proceeds assisted in various ways, from helping children who did not have Christmas presents, to providing groceries for the needy on the streets and assisting with cancer treatments for patients.

“The only reason we raise money is to give it back directly to the community. We believe that every dollar should be accounted for and I am grateful to have such a great team of members to support what we do. There is power in people,” Taylor said.

The name of the club, Loser Racing ,stemmed from a few jokes with a friend, but has grown into a 212 member organization that is continuously seeking out opportunities to help those around them.

The group meets every second Sunday at Jay’s Sports Lounge.

“The energy within our group transfers from one member to another. We do not actively go out and recruit members. People just see that we are good people genuinely doing good for the community and they come and support,” Taylor said.

Membership into Loser Racing is $10 per year. On the back of their membership cards is the club motto, “This group loves both their cars and bikes. We also help needy people who are having hard times; the most important thing is the fellowship we have with one another.”
