JCC events
The Leo Yassenoff Jewish Community Center, at 1125 College Ave., has provided the following announcements:
Actor Allan Rich conducts workshop during Jewish Bookfair
Allan Rich - once a blacklisted actor during the McCarthy era, and now enjoying featured and supporting roles in such television shows as "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "CSI," as well as feature films such as "Amistad" and "Quiz Show" - will present an actors workshop at the JCC of Greater Columbus on Nov. 7 at 2 p.m.
Theater students and actors, as well as the general public, are invited to attend this free workshop, to be held in the JCC's Roth-Resler Theater.
Over the years, Rich has taught his organic approach to acting to such Hollywood luminaries as Jamie Lee Curtis, Rene Russo, Sharon Stone, Mariska Hargitay, Mick Jagger and Larry Miller.
On Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m., Rich will present his book, "A Leap from the Method: An Organic Approach to Acting," as part of the JCC's annual Jewish Bookfair.
The JCC Jewish Bookfair presents the works of Jewish authors or Jewish themes during a three-week long event. Authors of many of the books presented will be making appearances at the JCC Jewish Bookfair, including Rich.
The book, which serves as a basis for his workshops, provides an insider's view of actors and acting - the process, the people, and ultimately, the leap from the method proposed by the legendary Constantin Stanislavsky. The ideas contained in this book can be applied to the salesman, the politician, the physician or anyone who deals with the public and presents him or herself to other people.
For more information about the Actors Workshop, call Jared Saltman at 231-2731. For more information about the JCC Jewish Bookfair, visit the JCC website at www.columbusjcc.org.

Both JCC members and non-members are invited to try-out; nonmembers will receive a two-week pass to enjoy the JCC facility.
Through the instruction of Pat Noles and JCC coaches, the traveling team players will be developing the same skills taught at the middle and high school levels.
During the season, each team will be playing 18 to 22 games in the Central Ohio Boys Basketball Association against such teams as Dublin, Reynoldsburg, Hilliard and Pickerington. Additional games will be held in the league preview and in the season-ending tournament.
Those players who do not make the traveling team may still play in the Randy Kohn Youth Basketball League, which is affiliated with the Bexley High School Athletic Department. Noles will be instructing the fundamentals during the team practices led by Bexley coaches. They also will be invited to try out for the League All Star Team, and play nine to 11 games against other teams from local recreation centers and Catholic schools.
New this year to the JCC Randy Kohn Youth Basketball League will be the monthly practices for kindergarten through second grade teams. Basic fundamentals will be the focus of this program, including the proper way to dribble, pass, shoot, handle the ball, and play defense on baskets lowered to their size and with junior sized balls.
