Pantry kicks off food drive

The Olde Pickerington Village Business Association is sponsoring its annual food drive to support the PCMA food pantry of Pickerington.

From Nov. 1-5, businesses throughout Olde Village Pickerington will have collection boxes for individuals to drop off their non-perishable food items as well as monetary donations.

“We always need community support,” PCMA Director Dianna Kassouf said.

The pantry has seen a large increase in new families needing services, she said.

"These first timers are some that used to give, but now they are on the receiving end,” Kassouf said.

Some of the most needed foods collected for the pantry include canned fruit, tuna, canned vegetables, canned meat, soup and peanut butter. During the holiday season, items that are consistent with holiday meals are also needed.

Donations needed go beyond food. Household items such as deodorant, shampoo, bar soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes are also needed for individuals.

“While community support is vital year-round, this is an especially important time to consider making a monetary gift to the food pantry,” Kassouf said.

Monetary donations go toward paying for products sent in through the Mid-Ohio Food Bank as well as the occasional trip to the grocery store to fill up the shelves.

“Typically we see a spike in the need for services during this time of year,” Kassouf said. “It is a stressful time for our clients who are faced with increased winter heating bills, and the struggle to provide holiday meals and gifts for their families.”

Donations are accepted through the food pantry website at www.pcmafoodpantry.com. Donations also may be mailed to PCMA Food Pantry, P.O. Box 914, Pickerington, OH 43147.
