Taste of Pickerington

A medley of tastes will be offered at the 13th annual Taste of Pickerington and Fall Fest.

The event, which is expected to draw thousands from the region, is sponsored by the Pickerington Area Chamber of Commerce. It will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 1 in Olde Town Pickerington (corner of Center and Columbus streets).

For $1, visitors can sample a little bit of everything the city has to offer, including burgers, wings, pizza and Greek flavors.

Restaurants will compete for the coveted People’s Choice Award where attendees can vote for their favorite restaurants. Additional awards the restaurants will vie for include best appetizer, best entrée and best dessert.  Celebrity guests will decide the winners.

“This gives restaurants an opportunity to bring something that you may not know they have,” Chamber President Helen Mayle said. “When you think of Unos, you think pizza, but they have other options on their menu. Café Mediterranea has won awards the past couple of years and display those proudly in the restaurant. It’s a chance to spend a buck and get a sample of things you may or may not like.”

In addition to the food, the Fall Fest portion of the event consists of businesses promoting their goods and services. Winners will be selected by the people for best interactive, best display and overall best of.

“In the past we have had businesses such as Allvera Body Wrap & Wellness Center offering massages,” Mayle said. “There will be multiple vendors here where you can look and see what they have to offer, anything from make up to health care providers.”

The Pickerington Public Library will host a children’s area where children can enjoy storytime and complete crafts. A featured mascot for the day, chosen based on the story selected, will be there as well.

Events will include a llama provided by Rick Wagner of Wagner Insurance as musical entertainment, the touch a truck and eating competitions.

“We are expanding our touch a truck this year to include a bobcat, backhoe, fire truck, police car and dump truck,” Mayle said. “Vendors will be able to showcase their vehicles as well. It gives the community a little extra fun thing for the kids.”

There will be a wing eating contest between the Pickerington North and Pickerington Central football teams.

“It’s funny to see those big, burly guys up there shoving the wings in. We weigh them before - the wings, not the boys. Then we weigh what is remaining to determine a winner,” Mayle said.

Central is the current wing champions. There will also be a pizza eating contest between the police and fire departments.

“The event allows our vendors the opportunity to display their wares and sell them,” Mayle said. “It’s one of my very, very favorite fun things to do. It’s just a fun event.”
