Sanitary sewer updates for Brown Road, Mon-E-Bak
The Brown Road Sanitary Sewer Project continues to move forward as the contractor starts work on Richter Road, said Jim Stevens, road supervisor for Franklin Township. According to Stevens, the company is “buttoning up” small streets off Brown Road, like Brownleaf Road and Greenleaf Road, filling trenches with asphalt. The final overlay is aimed at October. Stevens said on Sept. 10 the contractor plans to bring three crews to east Little Avenue to install laterals. The main line was completed for Little Avenue mid-August. “They’re putting all the laterals in,” Stevens said. “They’re trying to wipe out as many as they can in one day.” This work cannot be done during weekdays because of businesses at the end of Little Avenue and the traffic jam that would ensue. Franklin County officials permitted this road to be shut down for two hour increments due to the narrow roads and high volume of traffic. “If we shut the road down, it’s not a very pretty sight. We’ve been dealing with that for some time now,” Stevens said. The contractor will keep metal plates on hand to seal holes in the road at a moment’s notice, in the event emergency vehicles need passage down the road. On Aug. 31, the road department met with the contractor and was told the schedule worked out and within 30 days the ground would settle and overlays could begin. “I’d venture to say that probably within the next couple of weeks they’ll start putting the final overlays in the Mon-E-Bak area,” Stevens said. El Paso Drive, heading west, will be shut down the weekend of Sept. 10 for the final bore fitting for that road in the Mon-E-Bak area. Stevens said the work must be done on a weekend to not disrupt the regular school schedule for North Franklin Elementary School. Both, the Mon-E-Bak area and Brown Road area should expect final overlays to be laid in early October.
