Explosions and Doom!

Dustin Jolivette and Shawn Ellis present “Explosions and Doom!” to teenagers at the Hilltop Library branch of Columbus Metropolitan Library June 28. They demonstrate the science behind dry ice, self burning substances, and how molecules react in different environments. This is one of the events in the Summer Reading Club.

The kids learn about the unique qualities of dry ice.

After making sure the kids are a safe distance away, Shawn Ellis illustrates how smaller molecules, like those in coffee creamer, burn quickly when introduced to fire in small amounts.

A dish filled with milk, dish soap, and a few drops of food coloring proved to be an amazing experiment the kids can try safely at home.
