On Dec. 13, Garrette Park once again became a winter wonderland with lights shining from high in the trees to low on the snow-covered ground.
Santa arrived to help turn on the lights, then retired to the Santa House to hear wish lists and pose for pictures with hundreds of children. Hot homemade food and drinks warmed the crowd. The lighted parade on Dec. 14 was small due to rain, but the onlookers were full of holiday spirit.
On Dec. 15, winners were announced for the home lighting contest: first place, Bob Fry, 9330 W. Broad St.; second place, Richard Dickerson, 6975 Highland Ct.; third place, Gary Lightfoot, 665 Hillsdale; honorable mentions, Richard Warner at 84 W. Court St., Jeff Peterman at 359 Darbyview Dr., and Kari Morris at 115 Ohio Ave. 3rd place.
Lights at Garrette Park will remain lit nightly through Jan. 1.

The West Jefferson High School Jazz Band entertained the crowd on the Santa House porch before and after the grand lighting ceremony.

Ava Whitt, 6, of Galloway tells Santa what she wants for Christmas. An iPad is at the top of her list. She guessed that Santa’s favorite cookie was a sugar cookie, and he confirmed that he does like sugar cookies.
Kylee Boysel, 3, of Lilly Chapel got all dressed up for her picture with Santa and held on tight to her candy cane and present Santa gave to her.
With snow on the ground, Garrette Park once again turned into a winter wonderland amid all the white and colored lights. The walkway was adorned with lighted arches.
