New trail opens in Reynoldsburg

Mayor Brad McCloud joined residents, community leaders, and city officials today at the ribbon cutting of the new multipurpose trail located at Civic Park, 6800 Daugherty Drive, Reynoldsburg.

The Civic Park multipurpose trail is a project that connects the adjoining residential neighborhood with the park. The trail will link directly to the existing sidewalk system of these neighborhoods, which will allow safe access for pedestrians to the park athletic fields, nature trails and other amenities.

The Civic Park multipurpose trail is a 7,500-foot long asphalt trail that is 10-feet wide and a loop that encircles three quarters of Civic Park from Daugherty Drive to Black Oak Drive.

The trail will provide a recreational and leisure facility for the residents and visitors to the city of Reynoldsburg. The master plan for Civic Park includes a trail encircling the park providing not only easy pedestrian access to the park amenities, but also as a recreational facility of its own right.

The trail will provide a scenic exercise path away from motorized vehicles and noise of the city environment. The trail encircles existing park soccer and baseball fields, provides easy access to footpaths along the wooded banks of Blacklick Creek, and opens several little-used areas of the park for recreational use. The trail will be restricted to non-motorized vehicles and pedestrians.

The trail improvements are being funded by a grant from the Federal Economic Stimulus Program and specifically from funds set aside for pedestrian and cycling paths.
