On Aug. 23, 2013, the Red Raiders of London High School will participate in a football jamboree with Chillicothe High School. The jamboree will begin at 7:30 p.m.
The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) allows schools to participate in a jamboree during one of the final three days of two-a-day practice sessions. It is intended to serve as a “dress rehearsal” for the upcoming regular season. The jamboree is played in the same format as a regular season contest.
As part of participating in the jamboree, the OHSAA requires competing schools to pay $250 into the OHSAA’s Catastrophic Insurance Fund. The OHSAA insures every junior and senior high athlete for a catastrophic injury. A catastrophic injury is one in which medical bills exceed $25,000. The OHSAA provided insurance has assisted injured players and families with medical expenses, remodeling homes, education and other rehabilitation measures. There is an annual insurance premium to the OHSAA that exceeds $600,000. OHSAA member schools pay no membership fee and no insurance fee.
Jamborees held in 2010 generated more than $70,000 toward the Catastrophic Insurance Fund. As part of this evening, fans will be charged a gate admission. This fee will be $4 for adults and $3 for students and younger. The only acceptable pass will be the Red Raider Club pass.
Only the home side of the stadium will be opened for seating. The Touchdown Club will make a concession stand available as well. Any questions can be directed to Jim Wolverton, London athletic director, at (740) 852-5705, ext. 1114.
