Clean Up Week contest
The city of Reynoldsburg is once again holding a poster contest in conjunction with this years Clean Up Week.
Clean Up Week will be held June 3-12, with June 4 being Clean Up Day. This is the sixth year for this event.
The poster contest is open to all residents and the winning poster will have its design on the T-shirts distributed to all volunteers for the event.
This years slogan isRespect Reynoldsburg … Clean Up, Spruce Up, Fix Up. The poster must be no larger than 11-by-17-inches and the person submitting the poster must be a sutdent in Reynoldsburg, public or private. The poster also must include the name, address, age and school of the artist.
Posters must be submitted by May 10 and can be dropped off at Reynoldsburg City Hall, 7232 E. Main St.
Sweet Street event
The Pickerington Area Chamber of Commerce is organizing its first Sweet Street event. In its first year, the event will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. May 28 on Columbus Street in Olde Pickerington Village.
Local bakers may register their treats in a community bake-off contest, which is open to anyone. Entries can be anything from baking pies, cookies, cakes, homemade ice cream to Creme Brule. Celebrity judges include Chef Art from Amber Park.

Non-military options after high school
A meeting for high school students and/or parents will be held at some Columbus Metropolitan Library branches in May.
Topics will include Ohios fastest growing jobs, ways to serve your community and country, and good questions to ask military recruiters.
“Before You Enlist," a 15-minute video, will be shown and free materials will be available. The meeting locations and times are as follows:

St. Andrews Episcopal Church will hold its annual flower sale from 11a.m. to 7p.m. May 6 and from 9a.m. to 3p.m. May 7. The Marabar Heights and Four Seasons Garden Clubs of Reynoldsburg will once again present a joint spring plant sale in the parking lot of the historic Livingston House, 1792 Graham Road in Reynoldsburg, from 8 a.m. to noon May 7, rain or shine.
This annual sale includes potted plants for sale, such as perennials, annuals, herbs, shrubs and more. Most of the plants, ranging price from $2 to $5, are from members gardens.
Each year the members, most whom live in the Reynoldsburg area, share their unusual and popular plants for the sale.
The sale proceeds benefit public beautification projects in the Reynoldsburg area such as maintenance of the Livingston House gardens, replacement of trees damaged by wind storms, and the hanging baskets and potted plants displayed along Main Street.
The Livingston House will not be open for the public during the plant sale.
The Reynoldsburg Community Band, conducted by Brian Sze, will open its 2011 concert season at 3 p.m. May 15. The concert will be held at Reynoldsburg United Methodist Church, 1636 Graham Road. The concert is family-friendly and admission is free.
The band will perform a variety of music including:Cajun Folks Songs,Gershwin!,“The Sound of Music,Glenn Miller in Concert,American Elegy andOpening Night on Broadway.

The OhioHealth Mobile Mammography and bone density testing is coming to central Ohio neighborhoods.
OhioHealths mobile testing unit offers state-of-the-art digital technology and the same safety, privacy, accuracy and quality found in all other OhioHealth locations.
The OhioHealth Mobile Unit will be at CSBank on East Main Street in Reynoldsburg from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 27.

50th anniversary events
In preparation for its 50th anniversary celebration in September, Epiphany Lutheran Church, 268 Hill Road N. in Pickerington, has planned monthly events.
The second Sunday in each month will feature a former pastor/assistant pastor as the guest preacher. The nextCelebration Sunday" will be held May 8 with Pastor Mark Nodo, who served as associate pastor at Epiphany from August 1992 to March 1996, officiating.
The worship service begins at 9 a.m. with a ministry fair observed in the gathering space following the service. The Contemporary worship service will be held at 11 a.m., with a congregational potluck at 12:15 p.m. All are invited to attend and help Epiphany Lutheran Church celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Church of the Redeemer United Methodist is holding a spaghetti dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. May 6. Olde Village Chocolate Hop
If chocolate is your passion, the Olde Village Chocolate Hop is right up your alley. Join the fun on May 6 from 5 to 8:30 p.m.
The Olde Pickerington Village Business Association has teamed up with Pickerington High School Central students for this first-time, fundraising event. Proceeds will benefit the PHSC AfterProm and OPVBA community events.
Chocolate lovers who donate $5 receive a map of 15 Olde Pickerington Village businesses that will saythank you with a little chocolate treat.
Donations may be made at Deblin Design, J. Nicoles Day Spa, the Pickerington-Violet Township Historical Society Museum and through PHSC students involved in S.A.D.D., Student Council and Renaissance Leadership.

Mothers Day essay contest
Youth Connections Inc. is holding a Mothers Day essay contest. To participate, describe in 200 words or less why your mother, grandmother, or any female who represents the role of a mother deserves to receive the Mary Marie AndersonA Jewel To Behold" Mother’s Day Award.
The top winning typed essay receives a $100 gift card, second place receives a dinner for two, and third place receives a cologne gift set. Finalists also receive a gift. The winners will be recognized on May 3.

Brookwood Presbyterian Church is offering recreational volleyball, called Volley on Fridays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Swim team tryouts
The Greater Columbus Swim Team of Ohio (GCSTO) is looking for new athletes for its spring season for its evening swim team programming and its daytime home school programming.
New swimmers are allowed a week with the team to see what it has to offer before deciding to commit. The team practices at Columbus Academy, the Concourse Hotel Fitness Club and St. Charles Preparatory School.
The team also has started a scholarship program for students in Columbus City Schools. Athletes who have competed only for summer and high school teams, or those new to swimming, are eligible for the scholarships.

Child care open registration
Church of the Redeemer United Methodist Preschool and Child Care, located at 235 McNaughten Road, is currently registering children from 3 to 5 years old for the 2011-2012 half day and full day pre-kindergarten program.
Child care is also available, part time or full time. CRUMP has been nationally accredited since 1997 and offers kindergarten readiness activities that are aligned with the Ohio State Standards for Early Education. Kids in Karate
The Reynoldsburg Parks and Recreation Department will accept registrations for Kids in Karate classes for ages 5 and older – including adults. This class is offered on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., through May 4. Register at any time.
Registration fee is $60 for residents and $120 for non-residents. Registration forms can be picked up at the Municipal Building, 7232 E. Main St., or can be printed off the city website.

Bread for the community
Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 530 McNaughten Road in Columbus, distributes bread, bagels and other bakery produce as part of the Panera BreadEnd of Day program.
The Prince of Peace distribution is every Tuesday beginning at 5 p.m. All bread is given away free on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. Everyone is welcomed.
Refuge of Hope Full Gospel Church is holding a ministry of couples that connect and bring strength to couples in these trying times.

Parents Day Out
Parkview Presbyterian Church in Reynoldsburg is now accepting registration for its Parents Day Out Program.
The program is a Christian-based play group for 2- and 3-year-old children. The class meets on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Parkview Presbyterian Church is located on Livingston Avenue next to Blacklick Woods Metro Park.
