Christmas in South Charleston is back for the 15th year. The South Charleston Community Club invites the public to enjoy holiday fun from 4 to 8 p.m. Dec. 7.
New this year are a community Christmas tree and a parade. Fourth-graders at Miami View School created over 60 ornaments for the tree, which is located in the lot east of Houston Library. Nancy Wilson from K99.1 FM will serve as grand marshal of the parade, which will run from Journey of Faith Church, 163 N. Chillicothe St. (Route 41), to Trupointe on South Chillicothe St.
This year,Clark Countys Best Raffle features over $950 in cash prizes plus holiday items, gift cards and services from local merchants. The grand prize is $200. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and available for purchase from any Community Club member or at the Catholic Parish Hall and Security National Bank the night of the event. The drawing is set for 8 p.m. Dec. 7. Ticket holders need not be present to win.
Per tradition, many village businesses will be open throughout the evening, offering treats, special deals and contests. The rest of the schedule is as follows:
4-8 p.m.—Soup supper at the Catholic Parish Hall, 31 S. Chillicothe St.
4-8 p.m.—Local crafters and artisans at town hall, 35 S. Chillicothe St.
4-8 p.m.—Free hot chocolate at Security National Bank, 102 N. Chillicothe St., and Blue Point Cafe, 6 W. Columbus Road
4-8 p.m.—Cookie walk at United Methodist Church, 15 E. Jamestown St.
5:30 p.m.—Christmas parade with Santa Claus
6 p.m.—Santa arrives at town hall to hear childrens wishes
6-7:30 p.m.—Childrens Christmas treasure hunt begins at Gilberts Youth Center, 65 S. Chillicothe St.
6-7:30 p.m.—Childrens Christmas crafts at Houston Library, 5 W. Jamestown
7 p.m.—Southeastern High School band and choir performs at First Presbyterian Church, 15 N. Chillicothe
6-8 p.m.—Hay wagon rides around the village for a donation of canned food (Chillicothe and Jamestown streets)
8 p.m.—Raffle drawing at Chillicothe Street Pizza, 54 S. Chillicothe St.
