Grove City was recognized by the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio for its annual Creek Sweep with an Emerald Award for community excellence.
The Creek Sweep is a collaborative effort between the Keep Grove City Beautiful board and local Boy Scouts to spruce up the regions creeks and streams.
According to Grove City Parks and Recreation Environmental Specialist Linda Rosine, 90 to 100 Boy Scouts and other volunteers hit area waterways in late October of last year to remove litter and debris.
SWACO awards five categories of Emeralds, with the community excellence award recognizing an individual, group or communitys volunteer efforts in promoting green practices in waste reduction and recycling.
Grove City was chosen over Urbancrest and Westerville, the two other finalists for the community excellence Emerald.
Grove City Mayor RichardIke Stage and Boy Scout representative Kurt Bohanon accepted the Emerald on the citys behalf at the seventh annual SWACO awards ceremony and luncheon. The Jackson Township board of trustees and Township Administrator Mike Lilly were also in attendance.
