WABA talks about July 2 parade

The Westland Area Business Association (WABA) is preparing for a red, white, and blue Independence Day celebration on July 2, with some new twists.
“We’re changing things up a bit this year,” Parade Chair Rachelle Parsley said.
The annual Independence Day celebration will have the post-parade extravaganza at Westland High School instead of at the Lincoln Village Plaza.
Parsley said new to this year’s post-parade festivities will be seven carnival rides and live performances by local bands.
“The Pocket Fishermen” will play music from the ‘80s and ‘90s from 2-5 p.m. WABA is working to line up other bands for the rest of the day.
Leading the parade will be Grand Marshal Kathryn Buckerfield, principal at Westland High School, who retires this year.
The parade steps off from Westwoods Boulevard at 9:30 a.m. and will proceed east on West Broad Street to the Lincoln Village Plaza where units will then disband.
“We’re inviting everyone to return to Westland High School for the afternoon,” Buckerfield said.
Additionally, featured in the parade will be marching bands from the all four high schools in the South-Western City School district – Westland, Franklin Heights, Central Crossing and Grove City.
