Book sale
The Harrisburg Library, 1036 High St., sponsors an ongoing book sale Monday through Thursday from 1:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. The library accepts donations of all books and movies but they ask you not send magazines. All items must be clean and in good condition. Proceeds benefit the Harrisburg Library Association. 

Screenings at Evans
Amity Care Home Health Services provides a nurse at the E.L. Evans Senior Center in Grove City to do free diabetic screening and blood pressure testing every first and third Wednesday of the month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call Amity Care Home Health at 334-6800.

Prayer box at UMC
The Grove City United Methodist Church has installed a purple mailbox for anyone wishing to ask for prayers. A person can drive up with a written request or use a prayer card provided in the shelf above the prayer opening spot. Pencils are also available. 

 Rotary Cruise and Ride
The Rotary Club of Grove City will host the 13th annual Cruise and Ride in Grove City's Town Center. The car show is scheduled noon to 6 p.m. on Sept. 25. More than 250 classic cars and motorcycles are expected to register for the event. Early express registration is now available through www.grovecityrotary.org. The first 100 vehicles registered will receive dash plaques. Registration is noon to 2 p.m. the day of the show. There is a $15 registration fee per show vehicle. Parking is free to those attending the show. There is no admission fee. Proceeds will benefit the programs and activities of the Rotary Club of Grove City, including student scholarships, Relay for Life Survivors Dinner, Rotary Lake at Fryer Park, and other local and international projects.

Military prayer service

Garden volunteers needed
The Gardens at Gantz Farm is accepting applications for anyone interested in becoming a garden volunteer.
There are 65 volunteers who support the Gardens at Gantz Farm in various ways. They put on a one-day educational horticultural symposium in March, host a one day herb and perennial sale in May, set out a table at the Grove City Farmers Market during Saturdays in July, lead garden tours, teach or assist with workshops for the public, host garden related events, plant with residents at local assisted living facilities, and of course work in the gardens. The opportunities are many and varied for beginner or advanced gardeners, or even those with no gardening experience at all.
Classes will be on Thursday evenings and will be held at the Gantz Farmhouse, 2255 Home Road at 7 p.m. The classes will give a history of the Gantz Family, the development of the gardens, and an overview of the various theme gardens on the property. There are four classes in all.

GCHS 50 year reunion
The Grove City High School class of 1960 will hold its 50 year reunion Oct. 1-3. On Oct. 1, classmates can meet for a cookout at the Berwick Manor Party House at 6:30 p.m. On Oct. 3, classmates will meet at Golden Corral from 9 to 11 a.m. For further information or reservations, contact Karen Bartley at 871-5767.

Cruise in at Buckeye Christian

Restoration Automotive and the Buckeye Christian Church will host a cruise in car and bike show on Sept. 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Buckeye Christian Church, 1528 London-Groveport Road. Registration is $10 per vehicle. Proceeds will benefit Restoration Automotive's program to help repair vehicles for single mothers or needy families. FHHS 40th reunion
The Franklin Heights High School class of 1970 will celebrate its 40th reunion on Sept. 18 at Terry Nitsche's house, 5650 Boyd Road in Grove City. The event will run from 12 p.m. to midnight with a hog roast, music, fishing and a bon fire. The cost is $35 per person and is due by Sept. 10. "Kline - By Design"
Grove City Council's Art Concern presents "Kline - By Design," an art exhibition of surface design exploration by the Art Concern's curator, Ray Kline. Surface design art includes the coloring, patterning and structuring of fiber and fabric. This art form involves creative exploration of processes such as dyeing, fiber and recycled art, mixed media painting and more. This exhibit will be displayed through Sept. 10 in City Hall, 4035 Broadway. The Grove City council is proud to sponsor The Art Concern, which features artists throughout Grove City and central Ohio. The exhibit is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or by appointment by calling Ray Kline at 875-2423.

Playgroup registration
Registration is open for the Grove City Parks and Recreation Department's early childhood program for two-year-olds and their parents. Children and parents enjoy preschool classroom experiences and activities including free play, singing, stories and art during this fun hour. Important skills such as taking turns, following directions and building friendships are developed in a supportive, relaxed setting.
Members of the Playgroup staff are established professionals with varied backgrounds in early childhood development. Classrooms offer a wide range of physical and social experiences. Playgroup operates September through May with one-hour classes on Friday morning from 9:15-10:15 a.m. or 10:30-11:30 a.m. The program is held in Gantz Barn located in Gantz Park, 2255 Home Road. Children must be 2 years old by Sept. 30 to participate.

Dress for Success

The Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce's WE:LEAD Committee will team up with the Dress for Success organization to host a charity event on Sept. 22 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Grand Oaks Event and Business Center, 1801 Gateway Circle in Grove City. Individuals will have an opportunity to purchase exclusive Dress for Success scarves designed by Echo as well as enter a raffle for jewelry with proceeds going to Dress for Success. The fee for the event is $25 for Grove City Chamber of Commerce members and $30 for non-members. In addition, the chamber will accept clothing and monetary donations to the Dress for Success program at the chamber office from Sept. 23 through Sept. 30. Hog roast for scouts
Boy Scout Troop 136 is hosting its annual tag sale and hog roast on Sept. 18 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church on Broadway. There will be a variety of items including books, toys, sporting goods, collectibles and more.

T-ball program

Arts in the Alley
On Sept. 18-19, the 31st annual Arts in the Alley Music and Arts Festival, hosted by the Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce, will fill Grove City's historic Town Center with more than 100 juried exhibitors displaying and selling fine art, photography, jewelry, crafts, fabric art, glasswork, and unique pottery and wood creations.
A variety of musical groups also will be featured throughout the weekend.
The festival will begin with the "Restoring Dreams" Arts in the Alley Parade at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18. The parade will take place rain or shine and will travel through Grove City's historic Town Center. The event will start in the Southwest Boulevard parking lot, go south on Broadway, east on Columbus Street, and will then disperse at Park Street Intermediate School.
The festival itself will be open Saturday, Sept. 18, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 19, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parking and admission are free.
Volunteers will provide a kids fun street where youth use their imagination to create free take-home arts and crafts. Arts in the Alley food vendors, who are limited to local non-profit and community organizations, will be on-hand to supply festival favorites such as chicken and noodles, fried bologna sandwiches, curly fries, funnel cakes, and much more.

Authors at Arts
The Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce will welcome several award-winning authors to the 2010 Arts in the Alley Music and Arts Festival for a book signing on Sept. 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Graeter's stage in the Grove City Town Center, at Broadway and Park Street. The book signing will feature authors Craig McDonald, Janice Biggs, Diana Hannon Forrester, William Gerardino, Laura Lanese, Janet Shailer and Liz Thompson.

Soggy Dog
The third annual Soggy Dog Swim at the Big Splash, 2831 Southwest Blvd., will be held on Sept. 12 for area dogs and their owners to enjoy a day of swimming, refreshments and philanthropy.
The weekend after the Big Splash closes for the season, the pool will open from 1-4 p.m. for a supervised afternoon of swimming, strictly for dogs. Admission is $3 per dog and humans will be admitted free. One pet will be permitted per person. All breeds and sizes are welcome as long as the animal is spayed or neutered; sociable with people and other dogs; and up-to-date on all vaccinations. Please note, no leashes will be permitted in the pool.

Schoolhouse Rock Live!
The Little Theatre Off Broadway will perform "Schoolhouse Rock Live!"
School teacher Tom is nervous about his first day of teaching and tries to relax by watching television. Various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the TV and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music with beloved songs like "Just a Bill," "Lolly, Lolly, Lolly," and "Conjunction Junction."
The musical runs on Friday and weekends from Sept. 10 through Oct. 2. Tickets are $13 for adults; students and senior tickets are $10.

FHHS alumni golf outing
The third annual Franklin Heights High School alumni golf outing will be held Sept. 26 at the Player's Club at Foxfire at 10 a.m. The golf course is located along State Route 104, south of Grove City. The cost is $250 per group of four or $60 per individual. The proceeds will benefit scholarship programs at Franklin Heights. E-Jets at Field of Dreams
The E-Jets International Electric Ducted fan radio controlled aircraft event will take place on Sept. 9-12. This is the premier all electric jet event in the United States that showcases the fastest growing segment of the radio control aircraft sport. The event is hosted by The Ohio Radio Kontrol Society and will take place at the Field of Dreams model airport, 6320 Young Road in Grove City. General admission is a $5 donation per car per day. The event includes a helicopter candy drop for children, sky divers, half-time flight show, and a top speed jet and scale competition during the weekend.
