Make plans now to attend the 31st annual Shekinah Festival and Auction for a day full of family fun.

The event is scheduled for Sept. 11 at Shekinah Christian School, 10040 Lafayette-Plain City Road, three miles southwest of Plain City. Follow the signs.

The festival begins with a hot air balloon lift at sunrise, weather permitting, and a pancake and sausage breakfast at 7 a.m. Coffee and fresh doughnuts also will be available.

At 8:30 a.m., the main exhibits open, including crafts, homemade baked goods, fruit and produce, cider pressing, apple butter cooking, and many other special events.

The auction will start at 10 a.m. and feature collectibles, furniture and other items. The hand-crafted quilt auction begins at 1 p.m. One of the popular auction events is the sale of tickets for dinners in a Mennonite home.

Other festival activities include hayrides, farm animals, a kids’ tractor pull, barrel trains and face painting.

As always, there will be plenty of food. Selections include chicken barbecue, trail bologna and cheese sandwiches, pizza, funnel cakes and apple dumplings. Visitors also can purchase products made on the grounds, including apple butter, cider and homemade ice cream.

There is no admission charge and parking is free. A pre-festival concert featuring music performed by Jonny Diaz is planned for Sept. 10 at 7:30 a.m. Some food stands will be open during the concert.
