Voting details for WJ recall election

(by Kristy Zurbrick, Madison Editor - September 01, 2010)

The process for West Jefferson's special election on Sept. 14 will proceed just like any other election.

The Madison County Board of Elections has mailed absentee ballot applications to all residents. To receive a ballot by mail, residents must return their applications to the Board of Elections by noon on Sept. 11. After that date, absentee voters can vote in the Board of Elections office at 117 W. High St., Suites 102-103, London. Regular office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office also will be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Sept. 11.

For those who choose to cast their ballots on election day, the polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The polling place for all registered voters in the Village of West Jefferson is West Jefferson High School.

According to Deputy Director Matthew Tlachac, the Board of Elections will post the election's unofficial results as soon as they are tallied on election night at www.co.madison.oh.us/15001/index.html.

The board will certify the official results within 21 days after the election.
The question on the ballot is: “Shall Scott M. Hockenbery be recalled from office as mayor?” A group of West Jefferson residents led a petition drive earlier this summer to put the question on the ballot.

Hockenbery has served a little over 2.5 years of his four-year term, which expires on Jan. 1, 2012.

For more information about the voting process, contact the Madison County Board of Elections at (740) 852-9424.
