Book sale
The Harrisburg Library, 1036 High St., sponsors an ongoing book sale Monday through Thursday from 1:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. The library accepts donations of all books and movies but they ask you not send magazines. All items must be clean and in good condition. Proceeds benefit the Harrisburg Library Association.
Screenings at Evans
Amity Care Home Health Services provides a nurse at the E.L. Evans Senior Center in Grove City to do free diabetic screening and blood pressure testing every first and third Wednesday of the month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call Amity Care Home Health at 334-6800.
Prayer box at UMC
The Grove City United Methodist Church has installed a purple mailbox for anyone wishing to ask for prayers. A person can drive up with a written request or use a prayer card provided in the shelf above the prayer opening spot. Pencils are also available.
Grove City Preschool registering
The Grove City Preschool is now registering for the 2010/11 school year that begins in September. Classes are available for children who will be 3, 4 or 5 years old by Sept. 30. Parents can choose two or three half-day sessions. There is a $30 registration fee and forms are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. The school is located in the Trinity United Methodist Church, 4850 Haughn Road. For additional information, call the school at 875-4432.
GCHS class of 1995 reunion
The Grove City High School class of 1995 will hold its 15-year reunion on Aug. 21 at Victory's, located at 543 S. High St. in German Village at 7 p.m. Appetizers, drink specials and live music will be provided. The cost is $15 per person pre sale/$20 per person at the door. There is an additional $1 paypal charge to use this option.
Rotary Cruise and Ride
The Rotary Club of Grove City will host the 13th annual Cruise and Ride in Grove City's Town Center. The car show is scheduled noon to 6 p.m. on Sept. 25. More than 250 classic cars and motorcycles are expected to register for the event. Early express registration is now available through www.grovecityrotary.org. The first 100 vehicles registered will receive dash plaques. Registration is noon to 2 p.m. the day of the show. There is a $15 registration fee per show vehicle. Parking is free to those attending the show. There is no admission fee. Proceeds will benefit the programs and activities of the Rotary Club of Grove City, including student scholarships, Relay for Life Survivors Dinner, Rotary Lake at Fryer Park, and other local and international projects.
Camps for children with autism
Through the efforts of the Stynchula Family Foundation, the third annual Football Camp for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders has been scheduled for Aug. 22 at Grove City High School. This year's theme, 'It's my Super Bowl' will take a no-contact approach to teaching kids the basics of football and allow them to learn from former Ohio State and NFL football players.
In an effort to include as many children as possible, a cheerleading camp has been added to help girls learn the fundamentals of cheerleading. Working with former college cheerleaders and typical mentors, they will be able to show their new skills to the players on the field.
The camp is open to children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders ages 4-18 and is free of charge, but donations are accepted. The event is part of a two day fundraiser which includes a golf tournament at Pinnacle, a silent and live auction, and a seminar. All proceeds go directly to the Nationwide Children's Hospital Autism Center.

CHA's Dog Jog
CHA Animal Shelter is gearing up for its oldest "running" fundraiser - the 20th annual Dog Jog. On Aug. 21, CHA will host its Dog Jog at McFerson Commons in the Arena District at 8 a.m. Well behaved, leashed dogs are welcome and encouraged to attend. Registration for the event is available online, www.CHADogJog.com , or the day of the event starting at 8 a.m. Registration is $25 in advance - $30 the day of the event. City registers for fall sports
Grove City Parks and Recreation will register teams for youth volleyball and teen dodgeball from through Aug. 31. Register from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday at City Hall, 4035 Broadway. Youth volleyball
A fall indoor volleyball league is available for youth in grades 4 through 12 in the following divisions: junior (grades 4-5), intermediate (grade 6), middle (grades 7-8) and senior (grades 9-12). Practices for the junior division begin in late September; intermediate and senior division practices begin in early October. Games begin the last week of October and end the first week of December with a season-ending tournament. A blind draft will determine teams. Players must register individually in person at City Hall. The cost is $55 per player ($60 for non-residents).
Teen dodgeball
A teen dodgeball league will be offered for 15 to 18 year olds for the first time this fall. All-male and co-rec leagues (four men and four women) will play on Wednesday nights beginning Sept. 8. Only one team member needs to register the team. All participants under the age of 18 must have a parent/guardian sign a waiver before the first game. The season is four weeks long, and the cost is $50 per team.
Garden volunteers needed
The Gardens at Gantz Farm is accepting applications for anyone interested in becoming a garden volunteer.
There are 65 volunteers who support the Gardens at Gantz Farm in various ways. They put on a one-day educational horticultural symposium in March, host a one day herb and perennial sale in May, set out a table at the Grove City Farmers Market during Saturdays in July, lead garden tours, teach or assist with workshops for the public, host garden related events, plant with residents at local assisted living facilities, and of course work in the gardens. The opportunities are many and varied for beginner or advanced gardeners, or even those with no gardening experience at all.
Classes will be on Thursday evenings and will be held at the Gantz Farmhouse, 2255 Home Road at 7 p.m. The classes will give a history of the Gantz Family, the development of the gardens, and an overview of the various theme gardens on the property. There are four classes in all.

GCHS 50 year reunion
The Grove City High School class of 1960 will hold its 50 year reunion Oct. 1-3. Cruise in at Buckeye Christian
Restoration Automotive and the Buckeye Christian Church will host a cruise in car and bike show on Sept. 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Buckeye Christian Church, 1528 London-Groveport Road. Registration is $10 per vehicle. Proceeds will benefit Restoration Automotive's program to help repair vehicles for single mothers or needy families. FHHS 40th reunion
The Franklin Heights High School class of 1970 will celebrate its 40th reunion on Sept. 18 at Terry Nitsche's house, 5650 Boyd Road in Grove City. The event will run from 12 p.m. to midnight with a hog roast, music, fishing and a bon fire. The cost is $35 per person and is due by Sept. 10. Arts parade sign-ups
School groups, clubs, and community organizations are encouraged to sign up for the 2010 Arts in the Alley Parade presented by the Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce and the Grove City Girls' Club. The parade will kick-off the 31st annual Arts in the Alley Music and Arts Festival at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 18. The deadline to register for the parade is Aug. 27.
The theme of this year's parade is Restoring Dreams to recognize the return of school activities and sports to the South-Western City Schools District. Anyone who would like to participate in the parade should complete a registration form, available at the Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce's website at www.gcchamber.org or by calling 875-9762. Details about entry fees, required for some categories of entries, are included on the registration form.
New scout sessions
Cub Scout Pack 82, chartered to Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Grove City, will have two new scout orientation and registration sessions for prospective Cub Scouts on Aug. 26 at 8 p.m. and Sept. 2 at 6:30 p.m. Both sessions will take place in the Our Lady cafeteria (behind the school) at 3752 Broadway.
