WJ street plan bad idea
Is it a problem finding a parking spot in West Jefferson?

As I sit through five light changes to get on Route 142, I question the wisdom of cutting out 50 percent of the traffic capacity of Main Street. Traffic is backed up through the middle of town. If more parking is needed, how about a lot on a vacant parcel?

I am trying to figure other routes to work to keep me out of downtown. Is this good for business?

I personally have never had a problem parking downtown, even for festivals. What will it be like when traffic is diverted off I-70 because of an accident? How about snow —what if you have to shut a lane down? What I can’t understand is why anyone would even consider doing this.

Baby shower great success

Lifepointe Family Center volunteers Loretta Ward and Stefani Warner join Director Megan Colwell in sorting donations from the countywide baby shower.

On July 24, Madison County residents were extremely generous with donations for the countywide Baby Shower to benefit Lifepointe Family Center (LFC).

Thanks to the support of Pat’s Pizza in West Jefferson, Der Dutchman in Plain City and the Mount Sterling Community Center—all of which served as drop-off locations—the center collected three baby beds, two porta-cribs, four car seats, 30 large containers of gently used and new baby clothes, nine boxes of diapers, 15 packages of diaper wipes, three exercise saucers, four baby bike seats, one bassinet, two strollers, lots of baby bedding, 11 winter coats and snowsuits, one swing, two baby bouncers, baby bath items, $45 in cash donations and more.

The only items still needed are size 2 through 5 diapers and wipes.

LFC is Madison County’s only pregnancy resource center and is run totally by volunteers. The center is in desperate need of monetary donations to pay rent and utilities. There is also a need for volunteers to sort clothing and work one-on-one with parents.

Parents participate in the “Earn While you Learn” program. This program helps them learn to budget, encourages prenatal care, how to care for the child, time management and the importance of being a parent. In return, the parents earn baby dollars to “purchase” things they need for the babies such as cribs, clothes, car seats and swings.

LFC invites the public to the second annual fall dinner and auction to be held Sept. 24 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Maranatha Community Church, 6240 Lucas Road, Plain City. Admission is a box of diapers and wipes. To RSVP, contact Megan at (614) 562-9408 or Debbie at (614) 306-8934 by Sept. 10 . Free babysitting will be provided.

Lifepointe Family Center is open every Monday from 2 to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon at 109 S. Main St., London. For details, send e-mail to lifepointefamilycenter@yahoo.com or call (740) 852-9730.
