Tomato Festival begins this Friday

The Reynoldsburg Tomato Festival — sponsored by Heartland Bank and organized by Reynoldsburg Festivals, Inc. — opens for its 45th consecutive year, Friday, Aug. 20, from 4 to 10 p.m., at Huber Park on Davidson Drive in Reynoldsburg.

The event brings together community organizations, businesses and area residents to celebrate the city of Reynoldsburg as the birthplace of the commercial tomato. The festival continues on Saturday, Aug. 21, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

For the second consecutive year, the festival will host the Mount Carmel Fitness Challenge. Other highlights include: musical performances by The Danger Brothers, country singer and Reynoldsburg native Ashley Everts, as well as local bands 2nd Story and Oblivion Fire; the second annual Reynoldsburg’s Got Talent competition, a community flea market, soccer and football skills competitions, a classic cars cruise-in, a pizza taste-off contest and an outdoor screening of "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!" As well, the traditional tomato exhibits and the Tomato Festival Queen and Little Princess contests will also take place.

The festival will also include a children’s area, exhibits from local business and organizations, as well as a wide variety of concessions. Concession proceeds benefit local community organizations.
