Aug. 21: Family Fun Bike Fest

(Posted Aug. 11, 2010)

Ohio to Erie Trail users can have some family fun and learn how to better enjoy their bicycles at a new event.

The Friends of Madison County Parks & Trails’ (FMCPT) Family Fun Bike Fest will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 21. The location is the shelter house of London Baptist Church, 1440 State Route 665, and the adjoining Roberts Pass Trail.

Activities include a bike rodeo, trail ride/scavenger hunt, displays of antique and unusual bikes, lessons on bicycle repair and safety, and games. Affordable refurbished bikes will be for sale. Participating children can earn free bicycle helmets. At day’s end, FMCPT will announce the raffle winner of a $420 hybrid bicycle.

The cost, which includes a picnic lunch, is $25 for a family of up to five members or $10 for a single adult (age 16 and up) and $5 for an individual child (ages 2 to 15). Children under age 2 will be admitted free.

Download and print the registration form at http://www.fmcpt.com/.

For five years, FMCPT’s annual auction was the group’s signature fund-raiser. This year the FMCPT board decided to launch the Family Fun Bike Fest to more directly showcase the trail, promote family enjoyment, and celebrate community involvement.

With 150 members, FMCPT is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization of volunteers supporting the Madison County Park District and the City of London.
