Krisalyn, Kim and Jesse Blevins are grand marshals of the Trinity United Methodist Homecoming parade. The parade kicks off the annual Lilly Chapel festival, which is open to the public.

Jesse and Kim Blevins and their 3-year-old daughter Krisalyn moved from Lancaster to Lilly Chapel at the end of June. They’ve wasted no time getting to know their new surroundings, from hiking along Big Darby Creek to enjoying storytimes at Hurt-Battelle Memorial Library in West Jefferson.

Come Aug. 21, they’ll really get to know the community as grand marshals of the Trinity United Methodist Church’s annual homecoming parade. Jesse is the church’s new pastor, so the event theme, “A Day of New Beginnings,” is a perfect fit.

“We look forward to meeting even more people on Homecoming,” Jesse said.

Both Jesse and Kim are originally from Cincinnati. Jesse attended Cincinnati Christian University, Cincinnati Bible Seminary and the United Theological Seminary in Dayton. He entered the ministry in 2000 and was ordained in the United Methodist Church in 2007. He most recently served as pastor of Sixth Avenue Methodist Church.

Kim attended Northern Kentucky University and earned her masters degree in education from Walden University. She taught sixth grade at a school outside Hillsboro and is now a stay-at-home mom.

With the new church assignment in Lilly Chapel, the couple said they are happy to return to a rural setting, something they enjoyed when Jesse served a church in Mount Orab, Ohio. Additionally, they are impressed with the congregation at Trinity United Methodist, which Jesse describes as “close-knit” and “very much family- and community-oriented.”

“It’s a small church, but we’re willing to do everything we can to help people in the community and in the church,” Jesse said.

He pointed to Trinity’s after-school program as an example, as well as a large dinner church members and even non-members recently put together for a member whose husband passed away. Jesse is already doing his part, too.

“I have plans to visit HELP House and volunteer at Loving Care Hospice, and I’ve already been contacted by the local Emmaus chapter,” he said. Emmaus coordinates a 72-hour multi-denominational retreat at which participants grow in their personal faith.

Jesse’s goals as the new pastor at Trinity are the goals of the church as a whole: “To build relationships regardless of the fact if someone comes to our church or not,” he said. “We want to strive to be a good neighbor and help anyone in need that we can.”
