London's Studio 7 offers art classes this fall

Artists with the London Visual Arts Guild are offering classes this fall at Studio 7, 7 E. High St. in London. Class and instructor preview days are open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday in August.
Class dates, times and fees are listed below. Registrations will be taken through August. Stained Glass: Learn to create in stained glass, working in the lead-came technique. Adults only. Thursdays, Sept. 9-Oct. 7, 6-8 p.m. (five weeks). Cost: $50 for tuition, $100 for supplies.
Instructor: Jim Keen attended stained glass classes at the Franklin Art Glass Studio in Columbus, on of the most prominent stained glass studios in the U.S. Jim is a graduate of Ohio State University and a lifetime farmer, now retired. He has worked from his home shop for the last 30 years, creating lamps, windows and other stained glass objects.
Basic Drawing: Learn to see and draw as a visual artist. Learn perceptual drawing skills—edges, spaces, relationships, lights and shadows. Age 12 upon approval and up. Mondays, Sept. 13-Nov. 11, 6:30-8 p.m. (10 weeks). Cost: $100 for tuition, approximately $40 for supplies.
Instructor: Kim Lattimer attended Ohio University, where she earned a degree in fine arts with a focus on painting, drawing and photography. She has displayed artwork and won awards in galleries and exhibits throughout central Ohio. She also teaches basic drawing, watercolor and calligraphy classes.
Introduction to Digital Photography: Learn the basics of using a digital camera, including general settings, care and use, simplified downloading of pictures to a computer, and printing pictures. The class will spend time taking pictures in the county courthouse area, and each student will choose one picture to be printed. Class size limit: 8. Wednesday, Sept. 8, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Cost: free tuition, $3 for materials.
Instructor: Robert Rea has been engaged in photography for 45 years. He has taken more than a dozen photo workshops in the past decade. He has been matting and framing artwork for nearly as long as he has been a photographer.
Composition Photography: Explore classic composition rules using digital cameras. After a lecture, students will be given an assignment. The results will be shared with the class. This class is not limited to photographers. Class size limit: 10. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Cost: none. Instructor: Robert Rea.
Matting Artwork: Students should bring one piece of art to mat that will fit in a 14x17-inch piece of mat board. Class size limit: 5. Wednesday, Oct. 27, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Cost: free tuition, $5 for materials. Instructor: Robert Rea.
Fundamentals of Painting Supplies: Get ready to paint en plein air (outdoors). Learn about needed supplies, from the basics to the optional, and brushes and paints that are the bare necessities. It’s important to know what you need and how to use it and to experiment with the supplies and equipment before taking them on the road. Wednesday, Sept. 15, 6-8 p.m. Cost: $20.
Instructor: Harry Croghan is a graduate of Georgetown College. He worked for several years as head artist and photographer for an advertising agency. He then started his own art and design company, which was in business for over 35 years. Now retired, he spends his time painting, teaching and writing, and he has kept up with the latest computer graphics programs. He teaches drawing, painting, photography and sculpture.
Painting with Photoshop: Photoshop is usually thought of as a photo manipulation program, but it also is an exceptional painting program. Students will explore the possibilities of starting from scratch to create artwork and importing part of the work that will be used. Wednesday, Sept. 29, 6-8 p.m. Cost: $20. Bring a computer, if possible. Instructor: Harry Croghan.
Crochet: This class is for beginners or those who want to increase their skills. Feel free to bring current projects to share with the group. Ages 12 and up. Mondays, starting Sept. 6 with the end date to be determined. Cost $5. Bring a crochet hook, yarn and scissors (and pattern, if needed).
Instructor: Sharon Brackett taught family and consumer science in Michigan and Ohio for 30 years. Her hobbies include painting, sewing, crocheting, reading and bicycling. Taught by her aunt to crochet at age 8, she then developed a passion for crocheting over the last 20 years. She has made baby clothes, afghans and toddler sweaters.
Drawing and Painting Autumn: While drawing, learn about lines in natural vs. man-made objects while drawing. While painting, learn about mixing warm and cool colors. The class also will include study of landscape and still life artists. Saturdays, Sept. 11-Oct. 9 (five weeks). Ages kindergarten-second grade, 9:30-10:30 a.m. Grades 3-5 for a more in-depth class, 11 a.m.-noon. Cost: $40.
Instructor: Karla Knief has taught art in public schools for 30 years and also teaches private classes. She has painted, worked in fiber art, hand-built pottery and created mosaics. She grew up in Iowa and went to college in Virginia, Indiana and Ohio. She has been a London resident for over 30 years.
Collage and Mask Making: Study and create masks from a variety of collage materials. Also, study great collage artists. Saturdays, Oct. 23-Nov. 20 (five weeks). Ages kindergarten-second grade, 9:30-10:30 a.m. Grades 3-5 for a more in-depth class, 11 a.m.-noon. Cost: $40. Instructor: Karla Knief.
Jewelry Making: Learn the basics of soldering and techniques to create three works of art. Also learn how to add texture to soldered pieces to make them unique. Explore working with wire by bending, curling and wrapping the pieces. Sunday, Oct. 10, 1-6 p.m. Class size limit: 8. Cost: $59.
Kit includes: soldering iron, soldering board, solder, copper tape, wire, rings, glass slides and ribbon. Bring to class: Small round-nose and flat-nose jewelry pliers (available at any craft store), scissors and an Exacto knife. Instructor will supply a selection of images or bring your own in 1x3-inch or 1x1-inch sizes (no glossy photos). Images should be finished.
