Bark for Life comes to Groveport

The American Cancer Society's "Bark For Life" will be Aug. 14 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road.

Bark For Life is a Relay For Life fundraising event that honors the care-giving qualities of canine companions.

"Everyone has someone who has been affected by cancer and at the Relay For Life events we do not include pets because it is such a long time to have them out there with us," said Patrick Ryan, who has been involved with the Relay For Life of Groveport for the past three years with his sister who is a three-year survivor. "This is a way to inspire those of us who love our pets to get involved and support those we care about."

Bark For Life includes a one-mile walk that will take place after the opening ceremony. Along with teams and vendors set up, there will be games and awards for pets following the walk.

Registration for the event will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will cost $25 per dog and companion. Each person is allowed up to two pets. Upon registration each dog will receive a bandana, along with the clean up bags provided. All dogs must be handled on leashes and all owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets.
