PORTER
John S. Porter, known to many as Johnnie, 56, formerly of Mount Sterling, died unexpectedly July 30 in Clinton Memorial (ER) in Wilmington. He was born Nov. 23, 1953, in Columbus, Ohio. John was a 1972 graduate of Madison-Plains High School; graduated from Urbana University; The College of Mortuary Science in Cincinnati; was a member of The United Church in Mount Sterling; attended Sabina United Methodist Church where he helped deliver meals to those in need; former owner of Porter Funeral Home, Mount Sterling; member of Ohio Funeral Directors Assn.; Masonic Lodge 269 F&AM of Mount Sterling. John was an avid golfer and fisherman; he enjoyed sports of all kinds. John loved his family and loved being with his friends. He never knew a stranger. John chose to be a donor in the Anatomical Gift Program at Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University. Mortui vivos docebunt: “The dead shall teach the living.” As the director of the program stated, “The gift of your remains for educational and scientific purposes is truly meaningful and is an act of unselfish concern for all who succeed you in life.” The hallmark of donors to the Anatomical Gift Program is that they were “givers” throughout their lives. A Service of Remembrance was held Aug. 6 at Mount Sterling First Church of the Nazarene. Memorial contributions may be given to the Madison Plains Scholarship Foundation. Arrangements were made under the direction of Porter-Tidd Funeral Home.
