24/7 Prayer Room
Plain City United Methodist Church is hosting its fourth annual 24/7 Prayer Room Aug. 8-15. They will transform a vacant building on Main Street into a sanctified space for prayer. Individuals, groups and families can sign up for an hour time-slot or more. The community is invited to join in or give organizers their concerns. The building will contain many areas and ideas that will cause prayer to flow naturally. The Prayer Room will be in use 24 hours per day for seven days.
Aqua Aerobics
The London City Pool will offer aqua aerobic classes from 6 to 7 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays Aug. 2-18. The cost is $20 for the month without a pool pass; $15 with a pool pass, or $5 per class. Non-swimmers are welcome. Call Debby Long, (740) 845-0263.
Armory Youth Center
The London Youth Center, located in the Armory on East Second Street, offers the following activities. Call (740) 852-1595 for more information.
• Every Thursday—Basketball, 6-9 p.m. A donation of $2 per player is accepted.
• Second and fourth Saturdays—Basketball, 10:00 p.m.-1 a.m. Players under age 18 must leave at 11:30 p.m. unless accompanied by parent. Donations accepted.
Breast cancer support group
Join the Madison County Breast Cancer Support Group in the Park Avenue Medical Building at 7 p.m. on the following Wednesdays for guest speakers, support from other women, and time to share thoughts and feelings about breast cancer.

Breast Care Clinics
Thanks to a generous grant from The Columbus Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Madison County Hospital is offering Breast Care Clinics, which provide breast exams and mammograms to Madison County women at no out-of-pocket cost.
Clinics will be held at the Battelle Breast Care Center in the Park Avenue Medical Building, 55 Park Ave., London on Aug. 12, Aug. 26, Sept. 9, Sept. 23, Oct. 14 and Oct. 28.
Appointments are necessary. Call (740) 845-7100 and refer to the “Breast Care Clinic.” You must be 35 or older to participate.
CPR Classes at Hospital
Madison County Hospital offers CPR classes to the public and healthcare providers. Participants learn how to perform rescue breathing and chest compressions on adults, children and infants. They also learn to use an Automated External Defibrillator and how to help choking victims.
All classes are held in the Park Avenue Medical Building Conference Room, 55 Park Ave., London.
Recertification Class
This class is for individuals who have trained in CPR/BLS (Basic Life Saving) in the last two years. Cost is $45 per person.
Friday, Aug. 13 – noon to 3 p.m.
Monday, Aug. 23 – 9 a.m. to noon
Certification Class
This class is for individuals who have never trained in CPR/BLS or for whom it has been more than two years since the last training. Cost is $45 per person.
Monday, Aug. 16 – 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Heartsaver Class
This class teaches basic CPR skills and is designed for individuals who are in non-clinical fields. This course does not meet criteria for healthcare providers who must be BLS/HCP certified. Cost is $35 per person.
Monday, Aug. 30 – noon to 3 p.m.
Tuesday, Aug. 31 – 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Fairgrounds events

• Truck Pulls on Sept. 25—Classes are 6200 cheater stock, 6500 pro gas truck, 8000 2.6 diesel truck, 8000 pro stock diesel, and 8000 run-what-you-brung. Start time is 4 p.m. Gate admission is $10. Concessions will be sold.
• Farm Toy Show on Aug. 29—The show will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $2 (children under 10 admitted free with adult admission). Food and drink vendors will be on site. For details, call John Hammond at (614) 989-6659.
Fish Fry
American Legion Post 201, 9701 W. Broad St. in West Jefferson, will hold a fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 6.
Full Moon Bike Rides
Friends of Madison County Parks and Trails has scheduled the following full moon rides. These rides start at the Prairie Grass Trailhead behind the Madison County Senior Center at 280 W. High St., London. The 20-mile round trip to South Charleston departs at 8 p.m. The 10-mile round trip to Neil Road (Florence Switch) departs at 8:15 p.m. Upcoming Full Moon Rides are Aug. 27, Sept. 23 and Oct. 23. Helmets, lights and light-colored clothing are recommended. Registration is not required. For more information, go to www.fmcpt.com.
Golf Outing
The Madison-Plains Athletic Boosters will hold their annual golf outing at 2 p.m. Aug. 8 at Locust Hills Golf Course, 5575 N. River Road, Springfield. The entry fee is $65 per person which includes 18 holes of golf, cart, limited beverages on the course, hamburger/chicken meal, and door prizes. Gospel and Bluegrass Music

Health News for Seventh-Graders
Children entering seventh grade this fall are now required to receive one dose of Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria and acellular Pertussis, adolescent/adult formulation) or Td (Tetanus and diphtheria, adult formulation) administered as a booster dose. Parents must send the proper documentation prior to the first day of school.
The Madison County/London City Health District is holding a clinic Aug. 4 from 2 to 6 p.m. by appointment. The cost of the vaccine is $10. No one will be turned away due to inability to pay. Contact the health district at (740) 852-3065.
Know Your Trees Workshop
The Madison Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting a free workshop, “Know Your Trees,” from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Gwynne Conservation Area. A minimum of 10 participants is required. To register, call Gail Wilson at (740) 852-4004 by Aug. 4.

• Book Clubs. The Regular Book Club will discuss “Hollywood Wives” by Jackie Collins at 7 p.m. Aug. 10.
• Family Game Night. Play board games and Nintendo Wii gaming systems at 6 p.m. Aug. 4. Youth below the ages of 16 must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older.
• Family Movie Night. Watch “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” (PG) at 6 p.m. Aug. 19. Refreshments will be provided.
London Youth Soccer
The London Kiwanis/Takacs Youth Soccer Program is accepting registration. Any resident of Madison County entering first through eighth grade is eligible. The cost is $20 for one child plus $5 for each additional child of the same immediate family.
Practices are held twice a week and games are played on Sunday afternoons at St. Patrick School. Coaches and referees are needed. Call Les Takacs at (740) 852-4535 about volunteering.

• Scrapbooking. Free classes from 6 to 8 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month through August. Free card-design classes the third Tuesday through August.
• Farm Market. The market will run every Saturday through Aug. 28 at the library. Spaces are $10 for each Saturday or $50 for the season. Forms are available at the library and the American Legion Post.
• Summer Reading Program. “Books Come in All Flavors” runs through Aug. 13. Mondays, 10:30-11:30 a.m., feature stories, crafts, treats and prizes. On Tuesdays, 2-3 p.m., bring your own book or pick one of your favorites from the library to read with friends. On Fridays enjoy, a picnic at the library and a Red Cross Puppet Show. No registration required.

• CareerShop. returns to the Plain City Public Library on Wednesday, August 4 at 2:00PM. This interactive multimedia workshop will take place at 2 p.m. Aug. 4 and is for high school students and adults. Use your personality type to find career paths. No registration required.
Poverty and the Homeless
Poverty and homelessness in Madison County are the topics of a free, informative workshop set for noon to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Pleasant Valley Senior Citizen Building, 390 Allgyer Dr., Plain City.
Attendees will learn about the Circles Campaign, a continuation of the Bridges Out of Poverty work. Circles is a transformational approach that partners volunteers and community leaders with families who desire journey out of poverty.

• Dive Into A Good Book. Sign up for the summer reading program. Those who complete the program will receive prizes, enter the grand prize drawing, and receive a ticket to the pool party.
• Storytimes. Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.
• Free Pizza Fridays. Following Friday reading programs, the library serves lunch at noon through Aug. 13.
• Pool Party. The Summer Reading program will culminate in a party at the West Jefferson Pool from 8 to 10 p.m. Aug. 14. The party is open to anyone who completed the program (deadline is Aug. 14). Pick up a ticket at the library information desk between Aug. 9 and Aug. 14.
