Township still struggling with illegal dumping

An illegal dumper in Pleasant Township has struck again.
Several weeks ago, the Pleasant Township Road Department was called to Gay Road on four separate occasions to clean up debris left by an illegal dumper.
According to township chairman Keith Goldhardt, this person or persons left concrete, wood, bricks and gravel on the side of the road, and, on one occasion, even left their unwanted materials in the middle of the street. Goldhardt said it took at least a dump truck and a half to haul all of the construction debris away.
At the July 27 board of trustees meeting, Jeff Karn, the road department superintendent, said they responded to another illegal dumping incident on July 20, but this time it took place on Johnson Road.
"They left a ton of busted concrete and other construction materials all over."
Karn said these incidents are happening at different times throughout the day. The latest illegal dumping incident took place in the daytime.
He said the illegal dumpers like to use these roads because they are very secluded.
The trustees and the Franklin County Sheriff's Office have asked residents to keep their eyes and ears open for illegal dumpers.
Trustee Nancy Hunter said residents should call the sheriff's office at 462-3333 to report a suspected illegal dumper. Residents can also report illegal dumpers by calling the Nail-A-Dumper Hotline at 871-5322 or file a report at the website www.nailadumper.com.
According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, illegal dumpers that are caught can receive fines of up to $500 and receive a sentence of 60 days in jail, depending on the severity of the crime.
