Collector cars cruise into Plain City Aug. 7
(Posted July 23, 2010)
The Plain City Classic Car Cruise-In will feature collector cars and trucks from around the Midwest. The event is set for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 7 on Main Street (State Route 161) in uptown Plain City.
Last year’s cruise-in brought in more than 255 examples of fine vintage metal and an estimated crowd of 2,000 visitors.
New this year is a Cruise-in Kick-Off on Aug. 6, the day before the show, at Eldchrist Winery, 8189 State Route 736, Plain City. Musical guests, 2nd Story Acoustic, will perform from 7 to 9 p.m.
New for the cruise-in itself are expanded parking for show cars and more food vendors at more locations. Corn hole and children’s activities are on the schedule. The Karaoke Junkie will spin classic tunes and the classic rock band, 4 Miles Out, will perform on the Plain City Library lawn.
Organizers have expanded the award categories for car entrants, but continue to include dated classes, Top 40 (up from 20 last year) and Best of Show. Goody bags and dash plaques will go to the first 100 and 200 registrants, respectively. Twenty-five event t-shirts will go to random entrants. All vehicles are welcome, as are motorcycles for which organizers have added a new award.
Registration runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is $10. Registration forms can be found on uptownplaincity.com under “Latest News” to mail in advance or to complete and bring to the registration desk the day of the event before 2 p.m. All mailed entries must be postmarked by July 30.
During the awards ceremony, which starts at 4:15 p.m., Uptown Plain City Organization will announce the winners of the inaugural Plain City Shop Local Challenge where one lucky participant will win gift certificates for $500.
Back by popular demand are the 50/50 raffle and a prize raffle for items like grilling accessories, gift certificates and gift baskets. The open silent auction features a one-day pass to The Mid-Ohio School for a defensive driving or performance driving class or more at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
