Township talks trash contracts

At the July 20 Jackson Township meeting, trustees approved a plan to submit a completed ballot on the proposed increase on disposal rates to the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) landfill.
"We're running in the red," Bill Lotz, Sr, a representative of Jackson Township for the SWACO board said. "It"s something that is really important."
Should the rate increase pass, effective Jan. 1, 2011, the rate to use the landfill will increase $3 per ton to $39.75 per ton with an additional $3 per ton increase January 2012.
Township residents are under a fixed contract with SWACO. The rate increase will not affect these residents until 2012 when the contract ends.
"We have a fixed rate guarantee," township administrator Mike Lilly said.
Not included in the resolution, but discussed with trustees is an adjustment of collection schedules for the westside of Grove City as requested by SWACO to cut costs further.
The adjustment would move Monday collection to Tuesday.
"Everyone I talk to doesn't care," Lilly said.
"To me, it doesn't matter if it's Monday or Tuesday," trustee Steve Bowshiers said.
In other news, trustees discussed the possibility of placing "no parking" signs on Heather Louise Court.
Resident Kathy Williamson expressed concern for the ability of public safety vehicles to come down the street due to excessive street parking.
Trustees said the only thing they are able to do is to assess the situation and make a determination as to the best option for that particular area.
