BURGOON
Jack L. Burgoon, 62, of Mount Sterling died unexpectedly July 13 at his residence. He was born Dec. 17, 1947, in Columbus, Ohio. He was president of Allied Fabricating & Welding. A funeral service was held July 17 at Porter-Tidd Funeral Home, Mount Sterling.
LAIRD
Robert Glenn "Bob" Laird, 50, of Washington C.H. died July 13 at his residence. He was born on June 24, 1960, in Gassaway, W.Va. He was the son of the late Glenn and Madilee (Barnett) Laird. Bob was a custodian in the Madison-Plains School District, last working at Midway Elementary. A funeral service was held July 16 at Porter-Tidd Funeral Home, Mount Sterling. Memorial contributions may be made to the family who would like to submit those donations to the school for purchasing supplies or funding programs for students.
REMLEY
Charles A. Remley, 83, of London died July 13 in Country Glenn Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility, Washington C.H. Born on March 1, 1927, in Clinton County, Ohio, he was a son of Thomas Clyde and Annabelle (Scott) Remley. An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, Charlie was employed most of his life as a truck driver for the Madison County Farm Bureau and Lawson’s. He retired in 1983. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of London, the Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association, and American Legion Post 105. Funeral services were held July 20 in Eberle-Fisher Funeral Home and Crematory, London.
DHUME
Mary Lou “Susie” Dhume, 76, of London died July 14 in Thornbury in London. Born on Nov. 25, 1933, in Summerford, she was a daughter of Roy H. and Sarah (Hanscel) Dhume. Susie was a personnel director for the State of Ohio for 32 years, retiring from the Columbus Developmental Center. She was a lifetime member of Somerford United Methodist Church where she was extremely active. She was also a former member of the board of directors for the Marysville Community Action Organization. Graveside services were conducted July 22 in Somerford Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Loving Care Hospice, 56 S. Oak St., London, OH 43140, or the Humane Society of Madison County, 1357 State Rte. 38 SE, London, OH 43140. The family was served by Eberle-Fisher Funeral Home and Crematory, London.
GORDIN
Leonard A. Gordin, 98, of London died July 14 in his home. He was born in South Solon on Sept. 7, 1911, a son of John and Lucinda (Price) Gordin. Leonard retired from Yauger Monumental Works in London, was a life member of London Aerie 950 Fraternal Order of Eagles, and was a member of H.V. Christopher Post 1176 Veterans of Foreign Wars. The Eagles held a service on July 18 at Rader-Lynch and Dodds Funeral Home, London. A celebration of Leonard’s life was held July 19 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity or organization of your choice.
HARLEY
Richard A. “Rick” Harley Jr., 52, of London died July 14 in Mount Carmel Medical Center, Columbus. Born May 11, 1958, in Huntington, W.Va., he was a son of Richard Arlen and Jean (Papillon) Harley Sr. A computer graphics artist for South Print in Westerville, Rick had also been in the U.S. Navy. A member of Grace Baptist Church of London, he loved baseball, reading, playing on his computer and taking pictures. A memorial service was held July 18 in Grace Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church’s Mission Fund, 121 N. Madison Road, London, OH 43140. The family was served by Eberle-Fisher Funeral Home and Crematory, London.
HASTINGS
Jean “Ann” Hastings, 45, beloved wife, mother, daughter and sister, died July 15 in Farmington, Minn., after a courageous six-year battle with cancer. Celebration of Life services were held July 21 at The Depot, 134 S. Main St., London. Donations in memory of Ann may be made to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. The family was served locally by Rader-Lynch and Dodds Funeral Home, London.
EVANS
Gerald Jay (Jerry) Evans, 50, died July 16. He was a 1978 graduate of Dublin High School. Jerry was in the automotive industry for the past 30 years and was an affiliate of the Catholic Church. A private graveside service for family and close friends will be announced at a later date. Services have been entrusted to Rader-Lynch and Dodds Funeral Home, London.
LEACH
Mildred Ann Leach, 98, of Mount Sterling died July 15 in St. Catherine’s Care Center in Washington C.H. She was born Dec. 8, 1911, in Quincy, Ill., daughter of the late Charles and Clara (Vollrath) Stuckert. Mrs. Leach retired from Orient State and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mount Sterling, U.M.W., Rebecca Circle and the Foster Grandparent Program. A funeral service was held July 20 at Porter-Tidd Funeral Home, Mount Sterling. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Fayette County or First United Methodist Church.
RIDENOUR
Jane W. Ridenour, 91, passed away July 15 at Pickerington Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born on Aug. 18, 1918, she was a daughter of Roy "Prock" Wright and Jenny Myrtle Foster. Jane was a graduate of London High School and Bliss Business College, Columbus. She married Raymond Ridenour on Nov. 18, 1938. Jane was employed in clerical positions at Battelle Memorial Institute and London Correctional Institution. She was later employed as a church secretary at St. John’s Lutheran Church and First Presbyterian Church, both in London. She was a member for over 50 years at First Presbyterian. The family thanks all of Jane’s friends at Seaton, Kitty and Pottsie, and her friends at Visiting Angels, Pam and Bill Quick. Two special angels are remembered, her "girls," Sandy and Beau. A special thanks also to the care staff at Pickerington Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Heartland Hospice. Funeral services were held July 19 at First Presbyterian Church, London. The family was served by Rader-Lynch and Dodds Funeral Home, London.
ROWE
Estill Rowe, 92, died July 15. Estill was born in Kentucky, but has been a resident of Era and Mount Sterling for over 58 years. She was a long time cook and waitress in several establishments in the area. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and a great friend to a lot of people. A funeral service was held July 19 at Porter-Tidd Funeral Home, Mount Sterling.
CALDWELL
Thomas C. Caldwell, 74, of London died Monday, July 19 at Odyssey Hospital, Columbus. Caldwell was born on July 11, 1936, in Columbus, a son of Thomas B. and Gertrude E. (Gaffney) Caldwell. Tom was a member of Saint Patrick Church, London. He graduated from Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in 1954. He retired from General Electric in 1985 after 26 years of dedicated service, was a veteran of the Ohio National Guard, and was a little league football coach with the Valley View Vikings for 15 years. He was an avid high school sports fan, enjoying watching the athletes he had coached progress, but most importantly he was his grandchildren’s biggest fan in all of their endeavors. A funeral mass was held July 29 at Saint Patrick Church, 61 S. Union St., London. Memorial contributions may be made to: www.stcharlesprep.org or the American Heart Association.
