Waiting to hear more from potential WJ developer

West Jefferson is one of three locations a distribution company is considering for a new facility.
The Madison County Chamber of Commerce and West Jefferson village officials are not releasing the name of the company at this time. Council President Darlene Steele only identified it as “Project KG.”
Council met in special session July 12 to hear particulars from Chamber Executive Director Sean Hughes and decide what the village could offer.
“We would modify the TIF (tax incentive fund) so they could put in an additional fire suppression system,” Steele said. “Our Downtown Revitalization fee would also apply to them.”
Steele said she expects the company would bring in some of its experienced employees, as well as hire local workers to bring their staff up to 400.
“(The company) wanted information by the 13th or 14th (of July),” she said. “They will be making their decision shortly, perhaps by the end of the month. If we waited until Monday (regular meeting night of July 19), we might have been too late.”
The documentation that council approved for presentation to the company was “more than a letter of intent, but less than a letter of contract. We told them what we could do for them. Sometimes it changes with each company,” Steele said.
