Route 38 will close for two days
(by Kristy Zurbrick, Madison Editor - July 19, 2010)
The City of London plans to close Route 38 for two days, likely July 26-27, north of London High School/London Elementary and south of Fairhaven School.
The closure will allow work crews to efficiently move on to the next step in extending Keny Boulevard from Lafayette Street to Route 38. The exact days of closure will depend on weather.
Signage at Main and High streets, Elm and Lafayette streets, and routes 38 and 40 will reroute truck traffic away from Route 38 and onto State Route 56. The city is not using Route 42 as a detour option because a large Ohio Department of Transportation project has already detoured traffic in that area, said London Safety-Service Director Steve Hume.
During the Route 38 closure, London and Fairhaven school employees, as well as construction crews working on the new middle school, will be able to get to work. There won’t be any through traffic.
Work on the Keny extension project began in June. The top priority now is completion of the Route 38 intersection, including a left turn lane, before the school year starts in late August. The entire project, opening Keny between Lafayette and Route 38, is tentatively scheduled to be done in mid-October.
RR Grade Crossing Closures
Work has started on railroad grade crossings in London. The city is closing the crossings one or two at a time as crews make repairs.
The crossing at Madison Road is finished. Others due for repair are at Oak and First streets, Walnut Street and Maple Street. Mill work on Main Street also is planned.
All repairs should be done by late July or early August, Hume said.
