Puddle jumper
Lane Owen Caudill, 18 months old, couldn’t help himself. An afternoon rainstorm on July 13 left too many tempting puddles on the Madison County fairgrounds. Caudill, a Big Plain resident, dressed up as Woody from the movie “Toy Story” to compete in the Dress Up Your Pig contest. His pig’s name was Hammy.

Cute camel
Janelle Schlabach, 9, of London pets the baby camel in the petting zoo after watching some pig races. She said the camel was "cute."

First-place finish
Trent Hart of the Speedy Spurs Livestock keeps his pig away from the cages in the Class 4 Breeding Showmanship for 8- to 11-year-olds. He placed first.

Swine show
In the swine breeding showmanship class for 12- to 14-year-olds, Kayla Thornsberry of the Buckeye Rangers works her pig around the arena. She placed second.

Trent Ridenour of Green Range, Joey Beth Abbott of Mud Run Hustlers and Kelsey Woodyard of All American 4-Hers keep their eyes of the judge in the breeding showmanship class at the Junior Fair Swine Show. Abbott placed first; Ridenour placed third. |

Little meows
Jessica Richards feeds one of her four two-week-old kittens. Richards is a member of the Jumpers & Flyers 4-H Club. Her many fair projects include goats, dogs, small animals and a cat project. Richards also is a Junior Fair attendant and runner-up for fair queen.

Participants in the Junior Fair Rabbit Showmanship Class (ages 17-18) await the judge’s decision: (from left) Kassandra Barnhart of the Jumpers & Flyers 4-H Club; Alyssa Gothard, Fowl Play; Kelsey Lauer, County Conservation; Tifani Simmons, Fairfield Rascals; Victoria Sharrett, Helping Hands Happy Hearts; and Ashley Reisinger, Barnyard Kids. Reisinger won the class, Barnhart placed second, Sharrett was third, Lauer placed fourth and Simmons was fifth.

Ice cream machine
Elli Trimble, 7, Sara Oney, 6, Jaiden Ballah, 5, Calista Wallace, 8, and Kane Clark, 6, stand behind the 1934 John Deere Hit and Miss engine that runs the home made ice cream machine at the Madison County Fair. Bob Thomas from the Trinity United Methodist Church in Lilly Chapel explains to the children how the ice cream is made and what ingredients are used.
