Homecoming events in the Town Center
Grove City's 21st annual Homecoming celebration will provide a gathering place for Grove City High School alumni and the Grove City community to reunite and reminisce with friends and neighbors.
The event will be held from 6 to 10:30 p.m. on Friday, July 23 in the Town Center. Live entertainment will be provided by Wally and the Beavs from 7-10 p.m. The seven-piece band's high-energy repertoire includes rock and R&B favorites, there will be a Hall of Fame induction ceremony by tournament founder Steve Carr during the band's intermission.
New this year, there will be a hot dog eating contest, sponsored by Hot Dawgs, during intermission. Five contestants will compete to see who can eat the one-pound "Dawg Pound" hot dog the quickest. Interested participants must register at Hot Dawgs, 2213 Stringtown Road.
Grove City High School alumni are invited to team up with local businesses to participate in a Town Center window decorating contest. Each class will be provided a merchant's window to decorate to show their school pride. Interested alumni should contact Christine Houk at 216-8895. All decorated windows will be on display for the week leading up to the event.
The Grove City Rotary Club will present a classic car exhibition from 6-8 p.m. featuring the best-ranked cars from the 2009 Rotary Show. Several Grove City community groups will provide a variety of concessions during the event.
Grove City Tomorrow will hold the third annual Cornhole Tournament from 6-8 p.m. This year there will be two brackets. The adult two-person team costs $40, with a first-place prize of $500 and the second-place prize of $200. The junior two-person teams, ages 13 to 18, costs $10. The first-place prize is $40 and the second-place prize is $20. To register for the cornhole tournament, call 519-6871. Broadway will be closed from Grant Street to Grove City Road. Park Street will be closed from the City Hall driveway to First Street. All streets will close at 3 p.m.
This event is planned in conjunction with the Grove City High School Alumni Softball Tournament. Teams play at fields throughout Grove City on Saturday, July 24 and Sunday, July 25.
