Book sale
The Harrisburg Library, 1036 High St., sponsors an ongoing book sale Monday through Thursday from 1:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. The library accepts donations of all books and movies but they ask you not send magazines. All items must be clean and in good condition. Proceeds benefit the Harrisburg Library Association.
Screenings at Evans
Amity Care Home Health Services provides a nurse at the E.L. Evans Senior Center in Grove City to do free diabetic screening and blood pressure testing every first and third Wednesday of the month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call Amity Care Home Health at 334-6800.
RecSchool registration
RecSchool is currently registering new families for the 2010-11 school year.
Operated by the Grove City Parks and Recreation Department and licensed by the state of Ohio, the RecSchool preschool program is designed to support the developmental needs of pre-kindergarten children who are three years of age and older.
The program operates September through May with half-day classes offered one, two or three days per week at Gantz Barn, 2259 Home Road, in Gantz Park. Morning classes meet 9-11:30 a.m.; afternoon classes meet 12:30-3 p.m. Participants must be three years old by Sept. 30, 2010.
The RecSchool philosophy recognizes that children learn best through meaningful play. Experienced teachers plan a curriculum that supports cognitive, physical and social development through art, literacy, music, math and science experiences. This environment prepares students for successful experiences in school and beyond by fostering competence, social skills, independence, creativity and a love of learning.

Prayer box at UMC
The Grove City United Methodist Church has installed a purple mailbox for anyone wishing to ask for prayers. A person can drive up with a written request or use a prayer card provided in the shelf above the prayer opening spot. Pencils are also available.
GCHS reunion
The Grove City High School class of 1965 will hold a 45th reunion on July 24 at 6 p.m. at the Pinnacle with a reservation There will also be a class gathering for the classes of 1962-1965 on July 23 at the Peddler Lounge on Jackpot Road. For more information, call 875-5007.
Grove City Preschool registering
The Grove City Preschool is now registering for the 2010/11 school year that begins in September. Classes are available for children who will be 3, 4 or 5 years old by Sept. 30. Parents can choose two or three half-day sessions. There is a $30 registration fee and forms are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Baby Expo
When your children outgrow their toys, clothing and furniture, don't toss them - invest them. Grove City Parks and Recreation's Baby Expo on July 10 is a simple way for families to buy and sell lightly-used children's items at a reduced cost. Participants will swap, shop and share stories about parenting from 8 a.m.-noon outside City Hall, 4035 Broadway. For more information, visit www.grovecityohio.gov.
Amazing "Grove City" Race
Gather a team, put on your running shoes and sample a variety of Grove City experiences while competing in the third annual Amazing "Grove City" Race.
Teams will travel around the city, following clues and completing challenges to vie for Grove City bragging rights. This friendly competition will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on July 17. The 2010 event will include a variety of new challenges, both brainy and brawny. Past tasks have included making a homemade pizza, canoeing at Rotary Lake and completing mindboggling puzzles.
Register a team of two to four people, ages 12 or older. Each team must include a legal driver, and provide its own transportation. One participant from each team must bring a swimsuit and one must bring a bicycle helmet. The registration fee is $45 per team and includes a T-shirt, four hours of competition and a light lunch for each team member. The deadline to register is July 6, and spaces are limited.

School supplies for Eagle Scout project
Matt Tolliver of Boy Scout Troop 136, Grove City, will be working on his Eagle Scout project during the month of July. His project is a school supply drive for the Tom Fennessy Back-to-School Project. Needed items include pencils, pens, highlighters, filler paper, spiral notebooks, washable markers, scissors, rulers, glue sticks, three-ring binders, erasers and more. Drop boxes will be placed at the Grove City Library, City Hall, Jackson Township Building, and Jackson Township Fire Stations through July 23. New display at Welcome Center
The Welcome Center Museum, 3378 Park St., has rotated four of its display cases to showcase military items for the upcoming Independence Day celebration. The display will remain until September.
Museum hours are Monday and Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday-Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The museum will open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon beginning July 10 during Farmers Market.
Some of the items on display include Civil War rifle and saber, World War II Japanese and American army helmets, military rifles from Japan and the United States, uniforms, flags including a Christian Church Pennant used in military services and Japanese currency to mention a few.
Visitors can also look for friends and relatives in a 1,175 page book titled "Young American Patriots." The book is a listing of names and photographs of World War II military veterans from Ohio. It is kept in the Grove City Area Visitors and Convention Bureau office and can be viewed on request.
Summer Scribbles Writing Contest
Seventh and eighth grade students are invited to enter the Summer Scribbles Writing Contest being held at Southwest Public Libraries. The contest, sponsored by the Grove City Writer's Group and Friends of the Library, is open to any incoming seventh and eighth grade student who lives within the boundaries of South-Western City Schools. Visit either the Grove City or Westland Library for rules and entry forms. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place winners in each of two categories: fiction and essay/poetry. Submissions are due by Aug. 2.
Blast at Beulah
Grove City's Blast at Beulah is set for July 3 at Beulah Park, 3811 Southwest Blvd. The gates open at 5:30 p.m.
Activities are planned for children by Grove City Parks and Recreation and T.W.I.G. 184 beginning at 6 p.m. Fireworks start at approximately 10 p.m.
Bring a lawn chair and a picnic or purchase food and beverages on site. This is an alcohol-free event; coolers are subject to searches. Pets, other than service dogs, are not permitted in the venue. Fireworks are also prohibited. Attendees may walk in for free at the Park Street entrance - there is a $5 parking fee to use the Beulah Park lot.
The 2010 Blast at Beulah will focus on what the holiday is truly about - a celebration of independence and those who have fought to protect it. Patrons will celebrate the veterans and active military men and women who have so bravely served our nation. A special ceremony to honor active and retired military personnel will take place at 8:30 p.m. The special guests will have VIP seating. Those who wish to participate in the salute should reserve a spot by calling 277-3015 by July 1.
