Book sale
The Harrisburg Library, 1036 High St., sponsors an ongoing book sale Monday through Thursday from 1:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.
Some books sell for $5 a bag, others range from $10 cents to $1. The library accepts donations of all books and movies but they ask you not send magazines. All items must be clean and in good condition.
All proceeds benefit the Harrisburg Library Association. Donations are tax deductible.

Screenings at Evans
Amity Care Home Health Services provides a nurse at the E.L. Evans Senior Center in Grove City to do free diabetic screening and blood pressure testing every first and third Wednesday of the month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call Amity Care Home Health at 334-6800.

Preschool registration
Grove City Preschool is registering for the 2010/11 school year, which will begin in September. Classes are available for children who will be 3, 4 or 5 years old by Sept. 30. Parents can choose two or three half-day classes. The school is located at 4850 Haughn Road in the Trinity United Methodist Church. For more information, contact the preschool at 875-4432.

Reach out and Read

The South-Western City Schools will once again be partnering with Nationwide Children's Hospital and Central OEA/NEA to participate in the annual Reach Out and Read Program. Reach Out and Read is a pediatric literacy program which encourages family literacy activities in the home prior to a child's entrance into school.  Teachers, students, staff, and community members are asked to participate in the project by contributing new, age-appropriate books for children between five months and five years of age.  Gently used books for students up to eighth grade level will also be accepted.
Books will be collected through March 12 at all SWCS school buildings.  Last year the district was the leading donor for central Ohio through the donation of 19,997 books. This year, the goal is to match or exceed last year's total. 
A kick-off celebration will be held at East Franklin Elementary School on March 12 at 1 p.m.

Garden Tea Party

The Gardens at Gantz Farm Volunteers will present "A Garden Tea Party" for gardening enthusiasts from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on March 20 at the Evans Center, 4330 Dudley Ave.
The event will include brunch, a tea party, luncheon and four speakers including specialized herb experts and the author of Desirable Trees for the Midwest. Vendors with merchandise ranging from green cleaning products to garden art, seeds and pottery also will be in attendance.
"It is a day full of education, fun and mingling with our peers," said Gardens at Gantz Farm Volunteer President Mary Lewis.
The cost is $50, and all proceeds benefit the Gardens at Gantz Farm. Preregistration is required by March 15.

Pancake breakfast
The Hilltop Kiwanis Club and the Crossroads United Methodist Church have joined together to raise money to support the children of the Westside. For only $5 you get all the pancakes you want to eat, a sausage patty and a drink. The event will take place on March 13 from 7 a.m. to noon at Crossroads United Methodist Church, 1100 S. Hague Ave.

"Plaza Suite" comes to LTOB
The Little Theatre Off Broadway presents "Plaza Suite," by Neil Simon.
Composed of three acts, each involving different characters but all set in Suite 719 of New York City's Plaza Hotel. The first act introduces Sam and Karen Nash, who are revisiting their honeymoon suite in Karen's attempt to bring the love back into their marriage. The second act involves a meeting between movie producer Jesse Kiplinger and his old flame, suburban housewife Muriel Tate. The third act revolves around married couple Roy and Norma Hubley on their daughter Mimsey's wedding day.
The show runs on weekends and Fridays through April 3. Tickets are $10; student and senior citizen tickets are $8.
Little Theatre Off Broadway is one of the oldest continuously operating theatre groups in Ohio. It is located at 3981 Broadway in Grove City. Call 875-3919 for ticket information. 

Garden at Gantz to offer scholarship
The Gardens at Gantz volunteers will offer a scholarship of up to $1,000 to a student interested in studying landscaping, horticulture, sustainable living or conservation at an accredited college or university. Applicants must be residents of the South-Western City Schools District. Application deadline is March 31. For additional information, call 871-6323.

Health fair at Evans
The Ohio State University offers a free senior health fair every year to the public. This year's health fair will be held April 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Evans Senior Center, 4330 Dudley Ave. in Grove City. There will be over 50 different vendors offerings screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, glaucoma, diabetes, bone density and much more. Concert at First Baptist
The First Baptist Church, 3301 Orders Road in Grove City, will host an evening of gospel music on March 19 at 7 p.m. Soul Purpose and the Dove Brothers Quartet are scheduled to perform. RecSchool registration

RecSchool is currently registering new families for the 2010-11 school year.
Operated by the Grove City Parks and Recreation Department and licensed by the state of Ohio, the RecSchool preschool program is designed to support the developmental needs of pre-kindergarten children who are three years of age and older.
The program operates September through May with half-day classes offered one, two or three days per week at Gantz Barn, 2259 Home Road, in Gantz Park. Morning classes meet 9-11:30 a.m.; afternoon classes meet 12:30-3 p.m. Participants must be three years old by Sept. 30, 2010.
The RecSchool philosophy recognizes that children learn best through meaningful play. Experienced teachers plan a curriculum that supports cognitive, physical and social development through art, literacy, music, math and science experiences. This environment prepares students for successful experiences in school and beyond by fostering competence, social skills, independence, creativity and a love of learning.

Easter Fun Night
St John's will host their fourth annual Easter Fun Night on March 25 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. This event will include a light dinner, Easter craft making for children of all ages, and an Easter egg hunt. The cost is $2 per person. The event will take place rain or shine. The church is located at 3220 Columbus St. in Grove City. For more information, contact the church office at 875-2314.

Easter concert at UMC
The Chancel Choir of Grove City United Methodist church will perform a newly composed cantata for Easter entitled, "Come, Touch the Robe." The event is open to all on March 21 at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. For more information, call the church office at 875-5612.

Jazz dinner dance
The Grove City High School band boosters will host its annual jazz dinner dance on April 9 at The River Club at Confluence Park, 679 Long St., Columbus. For tickets or additional information, contact Chauntel at 277-3096.

Chicken noodle dinner
The UMW of the Grove City United Methodist Church will host a chicken noodle dinner on March 20 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $7; children aged 4-11 eat for $3; kids under 3 eat for free. The church is located at 2684 Columbus St. For more information or tickets, call 875-5612.

Tasty event for Food Pantry

The 2010 Taste of Grove City and Business Expo, presented by the Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce, will provide a unique and tasty way learn about Grove City businesses and sample food from local restaurants.
The event will be held on March 24 at the South-Western Career Academy, 4750 Big Run South Road., from 4 to 8 p.m. The event is open to the public with a $5 admission fee. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Grove City Food Pantry and Emergency Services.

Leisure trail meeting
A public meeting with representatives from Grove City and Jackson Township is scheduled from 6-7:30 p.m. on March 22 at the Jackson Township Administration Building, 3756 Hoover Road. The leisure trail will span from Hoover Road to Fryer Park. This project is part of a larger plan to establish multi-use trails throughout Grove City. The meeting is open to anyone interested in obtaining additional information on the project. Those who would like to share ideas but are unable to attend may call the Grove City Parks and Recreation Department at 277-3050.

Easter egg hunt at Trinity

Trinity Methodist Church, 4850 Haughn Road, will celebrate the Easter season with several special events this year. The bell choir will present two anthems during worship on March 28 at 10:30 a m. At noon that day, all children between the ages of 3 and 10 are invited to participate in an Easter egg hunt. The public is invited to attend  the events. Chicken & noodles in Harrisburg

The Harrisburg United Methodist Church, 1160 High St., will serve a chicken noodle dinner on March 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. Ticket are $7; $3.50 for children ages 4 to 12; kids under 4 eat for free. Art scholarship
The Grove City Arts Council will award an art scholarship to one or more graduating seniors in the South-Western City Schools District.
Members of the council sold flowers and baked goods at the Town Center Farmer's Market, donated proceeds from the sale of their artwork at the Arts in the Alley, and again during the Harvest Market and Winter Lights art shows, as well as ticket proceeds from their popular Night on the Town special event; all fundraisers geared toward replenishing the scholarship fund.  
From 1986 to 2009, the council awarded art scholarships to 37 students who enrolled in arts schools like The Columbus College of Art and Design, Rocky Mountain Arts College, Arizona State University, and more. Prerequisites for the awards are an intention to pursue an education with an emphasis on the arts in a college or university and a portfolio of five pieces of artwork available for judging by council representatives. 
Art teachers and school counselors will receive more information near the end of March. The council will review applicants in May.

Military prayer service

Library fundraiser
The Harrisburg Library will host a fundraiser on March 22 at 7 p.m. where patrons will make Easter greeting cards. The cost is $10. For more information, call the library at 877-4065.

Hand Bell Ring

The Grove City Community Hand Bell Ring will be held March 21 at 4 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. This is the 15th year for the comunity bell ring. Every year they collect a free will offering that is given to either the Grove City Food Pantry or the West Side Columbus Food Pantry.
