Flawless Falcons

Concentration and practice, lots of practice, were a must in the near flawless performance of Franklin Heights juniors Robert Choate (left) and Sean Hartley. The Navy JROTC cadets took top honors in the exhibition duet category of the Feb. 26 Westland High School JROTC competition. Their routine involved marching as well as twirling, tapping and tossing their weapons. During the event, Choate finished  second and Hartley in third place in the advanced knockout competition. All the cadets in their class (approximately 130) are lined up at once and drilled and inspected by a number of judges. The cadets are then tapped out one by one for any imperfections found by the judges, and gradually eliminated until one is left standing.

The Franklin Heights High School  Navy JROTC was one of the schools taking part in the Westland High School  JROTC Drill Competition that drew schools from around the midwest and  was held at Feb. 27 at Westland. Shown here the first year IDR Armed team take their instructions from freshman Platoon Commander Thomas Simons.
