On March 27, Jonathan Alder’s second-year bowling team won the Central District title, tallying a 4,464 total pinfall to Walnut Ridge’s 4,251 and Hartley’s 4,227.
All three teams advance to the state tournament in Chillicothe March 5, where the state’s top 16 teams will compete.
At districts, junior Aaron Wilson led Jonathan Alder’s team with 246-277-256 for a 779 series and the title of district singles runner-up.
Freshman Jaron Miller bowled a 181-184-256 for a 623 series; Tyler Walter a 229,179,204 for a 612 series, Trevor Marble a 233-582 and Cameron Fleming a 197-533. As a team, the boys tallied a 3,129 three-game set.
Miller, Walter and Wilson also dominated the baker games, finishing off the field with games of 223, 237, 203, 181, 279 and 211. In Game 5, only a solid 7-pin kept Jonathan Alder from perfection.
“I am so proud of these boys,” said Coach Rusty Walter. “The whole season of practice and tuff matches...prepared them for the set of the season. Every boy was outstanding today.”
The Jonathan Alder boys entered the tourament with a slogan: “One ball, one frame, one game, one team, one goal, Chilli-Bowl.”
Ashley Thomas was Jonathan Alder’s lone representative at districts. She bowled 178-171-183 for a 532 set and placed 10th. Only the top three non-team individuals advanced to state.
“I’m really proud of Ashley this year. She continued to improve, and next season the goal is to advance the young lady pioneer team to districts and get one of the ladies to state,” Walter said.
