Teachers get "sweet" honor

Beth Wiggall and Meggan Johnston have been nominated to receive the SWEET T (South-Western Educators Extend Teaching Talents) award for the month of February. The program recognizes the volunteer efforts of teachers in our school district.

Johnston was recommended for her volunteer service to the Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization. Her little sister lives in the inner city and most of her family have dropped out of school and have never left the neighborhood. Johnston was nominated by Judy Basore, a colleague who recognizes the special gift of time and talent she shares with others in the community. She is a teacher at Monterey Elementary.

Wiggall was nominated for many volunteer efforts including coaching many sports over the years including recreational soccer for boys and girls, girls volleyball, and leader of Girl Scouts. She, and her family, sponsor school families needing assistance during the holidays in lieu of family gifts. She is also an active SWEA member and volunteers at all levy and public relations activities. Her best friend and colleague, Lynda Howard, nominated her. Wiggall teaches eighth grade language arts and reading at Jackson Middle School.
