Daffodils and Boyds bears raise money for Cancer Society

Posted on Feb. 3, 2010

Madison County Relay For Life participants are selling daffodils and “Bear & A Bunch” gifts to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Daffodil Days is one of the American Cancer Society’s oldest fund-raising programs. As the first flower of spring, the daffodil represents hope for cancer patients and their families that one day cancer will be eliminated. The daffodil is the official flower of the American Cancer Society.

A limited edition Boyds bear named Birthdays R. Hope is featured in this year’s Bear & A Bunch. The 10-inch plush, oatmeal colored bear holds a Celebrating Hope cupcake, has a daffodil embroidered on one paw and the American Cancer Society logo on the other. The bear comes with 10 fresh-cut daffodils for a donation of $25.

A bouquet consists of 10 fresh-cut daffodils (vase not included). When the flowers arrive, they are in the tight bud stage. When placed in water, the buds open. Daffodils only are sold for $10 per bunch.

Orders and money are due Feb. 24. Orders will be available for pick up on March 14.  To place an order or for more information, contact a Relay for Life participant or Carole Haenszel (chaensz@columbus.rr.com, (614) 879-9213 or (614) 554-1789). Haenszel also can supply details about forming a team for this year’s Relay For Life.
