Chamber hosting a Valentine's Karaoke Night Feb. 12
(by Kristy Zurbrick, Madison Editor - January 26, 2010)
The Madison County Chamber of Commerce is singing a new tune.
For its annual fund-raiser to benefit local charities, the Chamber is hosting a Valentine’s Cupid Karaoke Night from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at The Abbey Gift Shop in West Jefferson.
The event is a complete departure from the format of the Chamber’s previous two community fund-raisers. Those were spa days targeted at women only. In contrast, the karaoke night is for couples and singles 21 and older. (Beer and wine will be served.)
“Last year we saw many other spa days being started and have seen that trend continue this year, so…a committee of Chamber members formed to redevelop the event and decided that a Valentine’s karaoke event would be fun and timely,” said David Jackson, the Chamber’s marketing and resource development director.
Tickets are $20 per person and include admission, light snacks and drinks. Tickets can be purchased in advance at: The Abbey, 93 W. Main St. in West Jefferson; the Chamber, 730 Keny Blvd. in London; or Flyers Pizza and Subs, 121 W. Main St. in West Jefferson. Presale ticket buyers will receive a coupon for a free small pizza from Flyers that can be picked up at the event. Tickets also will be available at the door the night of the event.
Karaoke will be $1 per song. Singers will be entered into a prize drawing that will take place at the end of the night. Chair massages will be $1 per minute.
This year, proceeds will go to the Madison County Deputy Sheriffs Association’s Christmas food box project. Each box contains the fixings for a holiday meal that serves six people. In 2009, the association delivered 150 food boxes to local families in need.
“We appreciate the Chamber hosting this event and choosing us as their beneficiary for this year,” said Madison County Sheriff James P. Sabin.
The annual fund-raiser was initiated three years ago by Nancy Hines, the Chamber’s former office manager.
“She developed it as a way for the Chamber to fulfill its community relations objectives while allowing professionals and business owners to work towards a project that was near and dear to them,” Jackson said.
